Yu Guangzhong once said that Shanghai belongs to Zhang Ailing, while Beijing belongs to Lin Haiyin.

On June 24, 1931, Lin Huanwen, a 44-year-old Taiwanese, died at the Rihua Tongren Hospital in Dongdan Sanjo, Beiping, and his wife Huang Aizhen planned to live in Beijing with six children. The eldest son Yansheng held the urn in the center, the eldest daughter Hanying stood aside with a sad face, lin Hanying, who was only thirteen years old at the time, sketched a book thirteen years later in a nostalgic language, which was "Old Things in the South of the City", signed lin Haiyin.

Lin Hanying was born in Osaka, Japan. His father, Lin Huanwen, was born in Taiwanese Wang, and his ancestors were Hakka families who moved to Taiwan from Jiaoling, Guangdong. After Lin Huanwen graduated from normal school, after teaching for two years, he went to Osaka to do business without any success, so he had to go to Beijing alone to make a living. Later, 5-year-old Xiao Yingzi moved to Beijing from Taiwan with her parents, a little guy who could only speak Japanese and Hakka. After enrolling in school, I quickly learned Beijing dialect. I also began to worry about this place in Beijing, and then there was the old thing in the south of the city.

Such a childhood is carefree, in Xiao Yingzi's young vision, Beijing at that time has quietly taken root, no matter how time migrates, it can not change this nostalgia. The sudden death of her father, when Xiao Yingzi took the graduation certificate, a certificate of growing up, and hurried home. The younger sister was still grabbing her brother's toys, and the younger brother was pouring sand into a glass bottle. Xiao Yingzi stared at the oleander hanging in the courtyard, and the person she most wanted to give to, the father who was not there, in that young heart, she had bid farewell to childhood, and she should have grown up. The heart meditated infinitely:

Daddy's flowers have fallen,

I'm no longer a kid either.

The book is divided into five short stories: "Hui'an Pavilion", "We Look at the Sea", "Aunt Lan", "Donkey Rolling", "Daddy's Flowers Fall I Am No Longer a Child", each of which is worth our careful reading, I think of our reading of Mr. Lu Xun's Baicaotang, and the juvenile time with leaping earth. Here, in Xiao Yingzi's recollection, we have a complete melancholy story, like our own childhood picture, a little blurred with time, but we ourselves have been stubbornly completing and beautifying.

Xiuzhen, the infatuated lover of "Hui'an Pavilion", and her friend Xiao Guizi made me cry. Xiuzhen's mental disorder is the loss of men and children who have turned their backs, day and night, chanting about her old lover Si Kang and poor child "Little Guizi". Xiao Yingzi's sympathy and the inherent kindness of the child are all in this poignant story, like a candle lighting up this dark corner. Finally, one day, she found out that her friend, You'er, was actually the little Guizi she had been looking for, and she turned around and took away her mother's gold bracelet, gave it to Xiuzhen and You'er as a coil, and sent them to the train.

In "We See the Sea", the kind brother is taken away by the police, and he steals for his younger brother's studies. In Hideko's eyes, her brother is innocent, and the adult world is even more difficult to understand. There are also little tricks in "Aunt Lan", Song Ma in "Donkey Rolling", for the role of Song Ma, this is her name in "Old Things in Seongnam", the maid whose original surname is Feng. From Shunyi, in order to "four yuan a month, two pairs of silver jewelry, four seasons of clothes, and a bed cover", Mama Song had to leave her children to her husband in the countryside to be a nurse for the Lin family, and stay for four years. In Xiao Yingzi's eyes, Mama Song will tell rural stories, do needlework, and sing nursery rhymes such as "Egg shell shell, sit brother in it".

Song Mom's son, whom she thought about day and night, drowned, and her daughter was sold to strangers the day she was born. Aunt Song ate a donkey's rolling cake and looked around for nothing. After that, she had no stories, no children's songs, just silently doing her own thing, and then she gave in and went back to the countryside to continue raising children, and this story made me feel sad in my heart.

After reading this book, I have a little regret. I pin my hopes on the coloring pages of my childhood, like Ye Guangqian's "The Old Black Of the Earth Dog" and so on, that kind of childlike fun and warmth, but these stories are poured into too much truth, once you walk in, you will make waves in these stories, we are all in this choppy life, accompanied by Xiao Yingzi to review these vivid people and things again.

But apart from our twilight thoughts, we are all endowing a happy childhood. We have grown old silently, and in the near future, unconsciously, we will also tell our children about childhood, about our naughty childhood, talking about the story of our parents being chased by our parents in the chicken and dog jump, laughing.

Every childhood is precious and unique. You will be free to reminisce, you will always cherish in your heart, you will also have your old things.
