In 1932, at Pan Yuliang's domestic painting exhibition, a painting of "Manpower Hero" was ordered for 1,000 pieces of ocean. But before the exhibition was over, all her works were destroyed, and there was a message under "The Manpower Hero" saying that it was "a prostitute's praise to a prostitute." This made Pan Yuliang finally unable to hold back.

In fact, on this oil painting of "Manpower Heroes", it depicts a muscular man with strong arms, struggling to move a huge stone so that the small flowers under the stone can be exposed. The painting expresses the determination of Chinese to resist Japan and the indomitable will. Because it was shortly after the Japanese launched the "918 Incident".

At the exhibition, the then Minister of Education saw the painting and booked it on the spot. Originally, Pan Yuliang said that as soon as the exhibition was over, he would send him the painting. Who knows, before the end of the exhibition, all the paintings were artificially damaged, and the message note under "Manpower Heroes" made her angry and chilling.

It should be noted that the income from Pan Yuliang's painting sales at the exhibition did not go into her own pocket, but was taken to aid the War of Resistance. However, such a righteous act, there are still people who maliciously speculate about her. And all this only stems from her birth in the Qinglou.

At first, she was discovered by Pan Zanhua's talent for painting, and with his strong support, she was allowed to learn to paint and was encouraged to enter the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. Who knows, when she achieved the top results in the admission examination, she could not enroll due to birth problems.

It was not easy for Pan Zanhua to mediate, so that she could go to class as an auditor. But individual teachers and students at the school were not very friendly to her. At that time, a girl from the same school learned of her experience and ran to the principal and said that she wanted to quit school. Asked why, the classmate replied, "I swear not to go to school with prostitutes." ”

In addition, a male teacher at the school had a conflict with Pan Yuliang, and after a drunken drink, he pretended to be crazy with wine and called her a "female cousin" in person. Fortunately, Pan Yuliang was not a soft persimmon either, and slapped the other party on the spot.

Although there was unhappiness in school, this did not affect Pan Yuliang's determination to learn to paint. If Pan Zanhua enlightened her painting talent, then the later talent exploration must be indispensable to her own efforts.

When Pan Yuliang was studying at the Shanghai Art College, he received many new ideas of Western painting, such as portraits of the human body. This is a test of the basic skills of painters, which has a long history in the history of Western painting.

However, in China at that time, the folk customs were relatively conservative, and painting the human body, especially the nude of the figures, really had the meaning of "risking the world's great disobedience". But she has a "tiger energy", wants to try everything, and even made a bathroom storm in order to paint people's nudes.

This has to start in 1917. That year, One of Pan Yuliang's teachers, Liu Haisu, held an exhibition of body paintings at the Shanghai Art College. The effect can be imagined, the whole society was shocked, and many people called him an "art traitor" or something.

By 1926, the body sketching class of shanghai meizhan was banned, and Professor Liu Haisu was officially arrested. In this way, those who were nude models did not dare to do it, and Pan Yuliang's human body sketches had no objects to paint.

On this day, she was in the bathroom of the public bath, and suddenly she had a stroke of genius. She ran out to get sketchbooks and pencils, and hid aside to secretly draw pictures of the women bathing in the bathroom. Unfortunately, she was discovered in the process of painting, so a group of women attacked her. Fortunately, there was a woman who knew her well at that time and helped her break the siege, and Pan Yuliang "escaped the disaster".

However, it also gave her a new idea. You can't paint other people's nudes, and it's always okay to paint your own. So she began to model herself, undressed, and painted in the mirror.

Once, Pan Zanhua came back to Shanghai from Yunnan to visit her, and happened to see her painting her nude. At first, he could not accept it, and even reprimanded his wife loudly for this rare reason. However, later Pan Zanhua still wanted to open his own business and decided to continue to support his wife's career.

However, in the social environment at that time, she had to paint body portraits secretly, which was not conducive to future development. Later, Professor Liu Haisu suggested that she study in Europe and study art.

This was supported by Pan Zanhua, so she set off smoothly. While studying in Europe, one of her works won a gold medal at the Rome International Art Exhibition, making her the first Chinese in the history of the National Academy of Fine Arts in Rome to win the award.

In 1928, Pan Yuliang returned to China and held the "First Exhibition of Female Western Painters in China", which was her debut in the domestic exhibition and achieved great success. At the same time, she was invited by the University of the Arts in Shanghai and Nanjing to become a professor. Her career took off.

Heavyweights such as Cai Yuanpei, Xu Beihong, and Zhang Daqian all praised her paintings and stood for her. However, even so, her origin still made her suffer a lot of unfair treatment and humiliation, and the message on "Manpower Heroes" is only one of them.

Later, the main room lived under the same roof as her, and the family conflicts continued. Coupled with the malice of the outside world, as well as some social factors at the time, it eventually forced her to go abroad again.

This is more than 40 years. When she lived abroad, she made a living selling paintings, and her life was tight. Even so, she often received compatriots abroad and donated the proceeds from the sale of paintings to China to support the cause of the War of Resistance.

At the same time, she also used art to spiritually support the cause of the War of Resistance against Japan in the motherland, accusing the atrocities of the invaders...

After learning of her husband's death, she became a "three-no-woman": she did not fall in love, did not change her nationality, and did not sign a gallery. She fought against the times with the spirit of not bowing her head. In the end, this unassuming woman counterattacked into a legend of the Republic of China.

The ancients said: "The poor are good at themselves, and the poor are good at the world." But Pan Yuliang has done a deeper level, she has stood firm in the malice of the outside world, and even achieved poverty and help the world.

The size of this heart is admirable.

The so-called "beauty in the bone is not in the skin", it is probably said that Pan Yuliang is such a beautiful person in the bones!
