Eighty years ago today (February 12, 1942), Zhao Shangzhi, one of the outstanding leaders of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition Army and a national hero, was seriously wounded and captured in battle.

General Zhao Shangzhi joined the Party in 1925, and after the "9.18" Incident, he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC North Manchuria Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Military Commission. After that, he successively served as the commander of the Third Army of the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army, the commander of the Third Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition Army, the commander-in-chief of the North Manchurian Anti-Japanese Coalition, and the deputy commander-in-chief of the Second Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition.

Zhao Shangzhi, Li Zhaolin, and others created the Zhuhe and Yubara anti-Japanese base areas, which dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese Kou.

In 2009, General Zhao Shangzhi was named one of the 100 heroic and exemplary figures who made outstanding contributions to the founding of New China.
