Famous foods of the Soviet period:
1. Ice cream: No chemical colors, preservatives or flavor enhancers added - only milk, cream, sugar and butter.
2． Condensed milk: A treat for every Soviet child. The Soviets replaced the desserts that Western children might have with condensed milk.
3． Doctor's Sausage: The most popular Soviet sausage, is a food and main course for entertaining relatives and friends, used to accompany sandwiches and salad dressings. Any Soviet knows its taste. In 1936, the commissioner of the food industry, Anastas Mikoyan, formulated it. Ingredients include beef, pork, milk, eggs and spices, which many doctors recommend as part of a children's diet. Offal, soy and starch were later added to the sausage, and for many, it was a childhood flavor!
4． Soviet Champagne: In the Soviet Union, sparkling wine was sold under the name "Champagne". The Soviets knew only one taste of champagne, and that was it.
5． Higuli Beer: The most sold Soviet beer, many people still miss its taste and are convinced that it is made from all-natural ingredients.
6． Canned herring in tomato sauce: The most popular and widely consumed canned fish in the USSR. Serve with bread and potatoes for a decent lunch.

8． Birch sap or birch water: Packed in a 3-liter glass bottle, it is a popular soft drink. Many Soviets believed that it was a very healthy drink.
9． Druzhba cheese: the price is only 15 kopecks. If three Soviet friends met on the street, they would get a bottle of vodka, some cheese, and then they would go somewhere away from the main street to eat, drink and chat.
10． Little Squirrel Candy: Candy can be eaten directly, with black tea, or as a treat for children. Very popular among the Soviets.
11. Chocolate cheese: Russians love cottage cheese and they will give them something to eat when they are very young. Initially, the range of flavors was limited – only vanilla and cocoa – and a variety of flavors emerged after the collapse of the Soviet Union, including berries, nuts, caramel, and more.
12. Sea cream: In the 1960s, Soviet ships began actively fishing for krill in Antarctica, and sea cream was the first food made from it. Prior to this, krill was only used as feed. The first batch was released in 1972. At first, Soviet chefs didn't know how to handle it, and later it began to be used to make sauces and sandwiches. In the 1980s, Kaliningrad began producing krill sea cream with white cheese and cream.
Most of these products can still be bought in Russia, but many elderly people will feel that the taste is very different from before.
