Yufeng Spinning Factory is the first factory opened by Shanghai capitalist Mu Rongchu in Zhengzhou. In April 1914, Yufeng Spinning Factory officially broke ground in XitouTouTou Village south of the Longhai Railway, and was put into operation on May 5, 1920. At that time, there were more than 700 workers, and the daily output was about 4500 kilograms of 16 yarns. By 1921, the number of workers had increased to more than 4,500. At that time, two-thirds of the workers in Yufeng Spinning Mill worked 12 hours a day and were paid only more than 20 copper rounds. The situation is even worse for female and child workers, who work more than 14 hours a day and are paid only 180 yuan. Workers are also subjected to body searches when they leave work, and their personality is greatly insulted. In addition, the plant lacks safety measures and casualties often occur. In order to prevent the workers from resisting, the factory raised a police force and paid a lot of money to bribe the local authorities, co-opt the feudal gangs, collude with the warlord forces, and jointly oppress the workers.
