What is the level of teacher salaries in Russia?

The Russian Ministry of Education, which provided a set of data at a meeting of the Federal Commission on Science, Education and Culture on February 9, said that three out of four Russian teachers (76 percent) were paid below the minimum wage, meaning that three-quarters of the country's teachers were paid below the minimum. This figure dates back to Last December, when the average wage was 12,800 rubles (about 1,000 yuan) (since January, it has increased to 13,900 rubles, or less than 180 yuan).

Obviously, salary and salary are not the same thing. For example, the cash rewards for teachers' salaries in Russia come from salaries as well as various allowances: incentives, compensation and other payments. In addition, the base salary part should be 70%, and the incentive part should be one third.

The problem is that (the Russian Ministry of Education has taken note of this) and the regions have adopted different approaches to teachers' salaries.

As a result, teachers in Russia appear to be earning a high salary – according to official statistics, the national average salary in 2021 is 45,800 rubles (3,800 yuan). But in reality, the highs and the lows are not the same. Because in Russia, teachers' salaries are sometimes five to six times worse due to regional differences.

Meanwhile, May is the goal set by the Russian president to raise the average salary of educators to 100 percent in the region. So what?

The Russian Ministry of Education, which has promised to correct the salary situation of teachers, is working on a draft new remuneration system that will be based on uniform national requirements. The project will be tested in six regions of Russia from September 1, 2022 to July 2023: Belgorod Region, Kirov Region, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Yaroslavl Region, Sakhalin Region and The Republic of Mordovia.

In Russia, if a teacher works for 15 years and has a senior title, the intensity of the work may be quite large, more than 30 lessons, which is twice that of a normal person. Such people may receive a salary of 3,000 yuan.

However, when a teacher has 18 lessons a week, he can teach normally and with high quality. Or a little more - up to 22 lessons per week. Then, he will not get more than twenty thousand rubles (1700 yuan). That is, it will be the average salary.

Therefore, to calculate the average salary of teachers in each region, the intensity of work must also be taken into account. Starting this fall, a pilot project will begin to implement uniform teacher compensation system requirements nationwide.

However, some Russian experts believe that if wages are considered from the workload, there are also problems. For example, when a new teacher first starts working, he is immediately filled with a workload of 20 or even 30 lessons a week. On the surface it was no problem, but he hadn't worked in school for a day, and in fact, he still had a hard time understanding the nature of the teaching activities, no work experience. As a result, they only have an average salary, and they can't buy a house, get married and have children. In the end, he either left the school after a while or successfully followed the path of a teacher. But the quality of teaching will be very poor.

Thus, this simple increase in workload all ends in a decline in the quality of education. Even this teacher, under heavy loads, works with all his might. But this eventually led to teachers becoming professionally burned out after a period of time.
