At 1:47 a.m. on January 7, 2022, Comrade Liu Siqi passed away in Beijing at the age of 92. The farewell ceremony of the remains of Comrade Liu Siqi was held on the morning of January 13, 2022 at the BabaoShan East Auditorium in Beijing. Liu Siqi, born in Hubei in 1930, was the daughter of martyrs Liu Qianchu and Zhang Wenqiu.

In addition, she also has a well-known identity: the wife of Comrade Mao Anying and the daughter-in-law of Chairman Mao. Today let's walk into this legendary woman and talk about her story.

She was chairman Mao's daughter-in-law, her husband died in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and she left us at the age of 92

Liu Siqi's family background

Liu Siqi and the wife of Mao Anying's younger brother Mao Anqing are half-sisters. The sisters' common mother, Zhang Wenqiu, was an early member of the Communist Party who had worked underground in the party for many years and was an old revolutionary.

Liu Siqi's father, Liu Qianchu, was Chairman Mao's comrade-in-arms in his early years. Unfortunately, in 1931, when Liu Qianchu was the secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, he was arrested and imprisoned by the enemy along with his wife Zhang Wenqiu for being tipped off by traitors.

On April 5 of the same year, Liu Qianchu was shot and killed by a reactionary warlord. Before his execution, his only last words were to Zhang Wenqiu: "I will never see the child you are pregnant with again." However, in the future, no matter where you live, you will miss the hot land of Qilu, so after the birth of the child, you will be named "Siqi".

During the Spring Festival of 1938, Chairman Mao watched the drama "Abandoned Child" in Yan'an. When he learned that the girl who played the little protagonist was Liu Qianchu's daughter, he solemnly confessed: "Si Qi is the descendant of the martyrs, and we all have the responsibility to cultivate her well."

He knew and fell in love with her husband Mao Anying

In 1946, Mao Anying secretly returned to Yan'an. Soon, following his father's instructions, he went to the countryside to work. Because Hu Zongnan invaded Yan'an, Mao An Yingcai returned to the chairman's side. In Yan'an, he met Liu Siqi, the love of his life. The girl with bright eyes and a warm smile caught his attention deeply. When they talked about their childhood experiences, Mao Anying was surprised to find that the two had a lot in common: both had been imprisoned with their mother and had wandered, and Liu Siqi's father had also sacrificed for the revolution. Mao Anying said: "In fact, there is no gap between the two of us, we are both bitter melons on a vine!" ”

On October 15, 1949, the 14th day after the founding of New China, Mao Anying and Liu Siqi got married. The wedding ceremony was very simple, two tables of dishes were set up, and only Zhou Enlai, Cai Chang, Li Fuchun and others were invited. The bride wore only a brown striped Lenin coat, tied a belt, combed her hair into two braids, and brought a velvet flower, which was the wedding dress.

Chairman Mao gave the young couple a coat. This coat was custom-made by the chairman when he went to Chongqing for negotiations after the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Chairman Mao smiled and said, "I don't have any valuable gifts for you, only one piece of clothing for Kishi Ying to wear during the day and cover it on the quilt at night." You all have a copy."

Her husband died tragically in the Korean War

In June 1950, when the Korean War broke out, Mao Anying took the initiative to ask for help and asked to go to the Korean front. But what Mao Anying said to Liu Siqi was just to carry out the mission.

However, in less than a month, Mao Anying died on the Korean battlefield, but from beginning to end, Liu Siqi was kept in the dark.

Until three years later, one day in 1953, when Liu Siqi faced "daddy" Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou, she always felt a little uneasy. Panmunjom has been negotiating for so long, and the armistice agreement has been signed, why can't you see your husband come back? It was not until the triumphant return of the volunteers that she learned from Chairman Mao that the place where Mao Anying had gone was Korea, and that Shore Ying had died on the Korean battlefield.

Later, Liu Siqi asked his superiors how to deal with her husband's body, and Chairman Mao quoted in the telegram the verse "Qingshan buries loyal bones everywhere, why should Ma Ge wrap the body back" to show his opinion on handling the matter with the whole world in mind and not favoritism.

After Mao Anying's death, Liu Siqi went to the Soviet Union to study with the help of Chairman Mao. From September 1955 to September 1957, Liu Siqi studied at the Department of Mathematics of Moscow University. In the fall of 1961, she was assigned to work as a translator in a certain unit of the People's Liberation Army Engineering Corps.

Chairman Mao regarded Liu Siqi as his own daughter, and he repeatedly advised him to remarry. In February 1962, under the care of Chairman Mao, Liu Siqi married Yang Maozhi, an instructor at the Air Force Academy, and upon hearing the news, the chairman was as happy as marrying his daughter and sent the newcomer his own 300 yuan in manuscript fees, as well as his own new poem "Bu Operator Yongmei".

After the marriage of Liu Siqi and Yang Maozhi, they had two sons and two daughters, the eldest of whom was named Yang Xiaoying, who was named in memory of Mao Anying. Later, Liu Siqi was assigned to work in the Academy of Military Sciences until his retirement. After leaving, the lives of the two were also very fulfilling. In addition to doing housework, he also participated in many social activities.

Liu Siqi also became a director of the National Foundation for the Elderly and a member of the CppcC National Committee of the Dongcheng District of Beijing. The two often attend some meetings, and Liu Siqi is still the "warm hearted" who likes to help others.

Time flies, years flies. Although Liu Siqi formed a new family and her children were on her knees, her thoughts and memories of Mao Anying did not fade away with the flowing water.

In 2006, Liu Siqi, who was nearly eighty years old, went to North Korea for the fourth time, and for the first time, he came to DayuDong, the place where Mao Anying died. She knelt down deeply, and the scene made the hearer cry. She murmured, "Kishi Ei, today I brought the children to visit your grave, and they revere you and miss you." I'm old, I'm no longer the Siqi I was then, and once I can't come to visit your grave because of old age or illness, they'll come instead of me, and you'll always be their relative."

On January 7, 2022, this great and strong woman left her beloved country forever. History will remember her old man's home, let us remember Comrade Liu Siqi together!
