In this regard, many people may have some questions, in that era, when the countries of the world were very aware of the importance of aircraft carriers, why were the British willing to sell aircraft carriers to India? The main reason for this choice is that the British are really unable to support the use of aircraft carriers.
It should be known that in the Second World War, in the face of the attack of the German army, the British mainland was bombed many times, and the British economy was seriously damaged in the Second World War.
After the end of the Second World War, the former "Empire that Never Sets" completely lost its former style. Because of this, in the face of the increasingly huge cost of aircraft carriers, the British will appear inadequate. Under such circumstances, when the Indian government offered to buy an aircraft carrier battleship, the British would naturally choose to agree.
When the British aircraft carrier named "Hercules" entered the Indian Navy, it became the first modern aircraft carrier in All Asia. From this point of view alone, it is a matter of course that India is called an aircraft carrier power.
After that, the aircraft carrier renamed "Vikrant" performed well in the Third India-Pakistan Conflict War. To this end, India also decommissioned the "Vikrant" and renamed a new Indian domestic aircraft carrier "Vikrant" again to commemorate the battleship that was once there.
Since then, the Indian Navy has made aircraft carriers a top priority. Not only has its own country insisted on the development of domestic aircraft carriers, but also continued to continuously purchase aircraft carriers from abroad. The first is the "Athletic God" aircraft carrier purchased from the British side, and after the purchase, the Indian army renamed this aircraft carrier "Virat". The second is the aircraft carrier "Gorshkov", which was purchased from the Russian side.
After having a number of aircraft carrier warships in succession, the Indian Navy has a unique scenery for a while. Even in the entire Asian region, there are few countries that can compete with India. Not only that, in the Indian government's vision, India's future naval development plan is to build a maritime combat force with the aircraft carrier battle group as the core modeled on the United States. Although the overall naval strength gap between the United States and India is still relatively obvious, it has to be said that the ambitions of the Indian government are indeed frightening enough.
It can be seen that compared with most countries in the world, India, which has many aircraft carrier warships, is definitely an aircraft carrier power. But at the same time, India also faces a very embarrassing problem, that is, the ability to build aircraft carriers on its own is too poor.
Even the "Vikrant", which was originally known as a domestic aircraft carrier, was actually just assembled and transformed. Compared with our country, the gap is very obvious in an instant. The main reason for this situation is that the development of light and heavy industries in India is not outstanding.
Many of the parts and core components needed to build aircraft carriers can only be purchased by India from abroad, and there is no independent production line at all.
In contrast, after the purchase of the Varyag and the transformation into the "Liaoning Ship", the mainland has the strength to build an aircraft carrier on its own. The launch of the "Shandong Ship" aircraft carrier means that China has officially entered the era of dual aircraft carriers. In the near future, if India is still unable to build aircraft carriers completely independently, it will have to be marked with the word "relative" before the current title of aircraft carrier power.
