Coinciding with the winter vacation, 7-year-old Dan Dan (pseudonym) recently looked at things always said that they could not see clearly, but also often shouted "eye pain", parents took her to Shanghai Aier Eye Hospital, after mydriasis and other examinations found that the right eye myopia 625 degrees, the left eye myopia 600 degrees, the vision of both eyes is only 0.15. At a young age, the degree of myopia was as high as 600 degrees... The balance of winter vacation is insufficient, and the doctor calls on not to let bad habits ruin the child's vision.
"Genetic + eye habits" is the main cause of myopia in children
Yang Yong, an ophthalmologist at Shanghai Aier Eye Hospital, said that there are usually six- and seven-year-old children who suffer from myopia at a young age due to watching TV or playing mobile phones, but it is not common for people like Dandan to have more than 600 degrees of myopia.
Yang Yong introduced that there are two types of causes of myopia in children in general, one is genetics, and the other is bad eye habits. Among them, bad eye habits account for the majority. In the case of Dandan, genetic factors account for a higher proportion, about 60% are myopia genetic factors, and the influence of acquired eye habits accounts for about 40%. But the problem of eye habits should not be underestimated, such as allowing children to watch TV too early, playing with tablets and mobile phones. Some parents have long let their children face electronic products with smaller screens such as iPads and mobile phones, which can easily cause long-term, close-up use of eyes.
It is worth noting that the brightness of the LED backlight of iPad and mobile phone is very high, which is 4 times that of the ordinary computer screen, and when it is very close to the eye, the strong light will be directly and concentrated into the human eye, and the pupil will continue to contract to adapt to the change of the light source, resulting in a decrease in the child's eye adjustment.
It turns out that Dan Dan's parents are highly myopic, and they care about their children's education, afraid that their children will lose at the starting line, and report various early education classes to their children very early, at the same time, for convenience, they use computers and iPads to download a lot of early education films, and watch them with their children every day. Who knows, a few years later, the 7-year-old daughter is actually short-sighted.
How to prevent myopia in adolescents
"Myopia prevention and control, prevention is greater than control, of which family prevention and control is the key." Parents are the gatekeepers of children's myopia prevention and control, and they must guard the first line of defense. Dr. Yang Yong suggested that parents should make a winter vacation homework completion plan with their children in advance, and supervise the daily completion on time and quantitatively. Moreover, it is necessary to pay attention to improving the efficiency of learning and avoid prolonging the time for doing homework due to procrastination, so as to reduce the burden on the eyes. During homework, rest for 20 seconds every 20 minutes and look at a place 20 feet (about 6 meters) away; take a 10-minute break for 40 minutes per eye, and try not to do homework at night. When reading and writing, you should maintain the correct posture of "one foot, one punch, one inch".
In addition, scientific studies have shown that outdoor activities are an independent protective factor for myopia, and insisting on outdoor activities for 2 hours a day and more than 10 hours per week can effectively prevent the occurrence of myopia. During the winter break, parents can remind their children to increase the number of outdoor activities.
Myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents is a scientific system, which not only requires professional knowledge in preventive intervention, functional examination, refractive correction, myopia prevention and control, but also scientific technical means. "It is recommended that parents regularly take children to professional ophthalmic medical institutions for examination from the age of 3, so that myopia risk factors can be detected early, prevented early, and intervened early to avoid children from developing into high myopia." Yang Yong said.
