The BMW Group's action to implement the electrification strategy has borne fruit, with up to 15 pure electric models in mass production and trial production during the year. By the end of 2025, the BMW Group plans to deliver 2 million pure electric vehicles worldwide.
In the past fiscal year, the BMW Group sold more than 320,000 new energy vehicles worldwide, an increase of 70%. BMW said that the "new generation" model based on the new structure will start trial production in 2024 and be unveiled in 2025.
Today, in addition to the BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX3 and other models that have already been launched, pure electric models including the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW X1 and other series will also be launched soon, among which our long-awaited flagship, the new generation BMW 7 Series, and the pure electric BMW i7 will be released in April.
BMW Group Chairman Chiptzer said. The all-new BMW 7 Series will be the first luxury sedan in the BMW luxury segment to offer an internal combustion engine, plug-in hybrid and pure electric drive. In addition, the "new generation" model based on the new structure and equipped with the sixth-generation eDrive electric drive system will roll off the production line in 2024.
BMW's so-called "next generation" models feature a completely redesigned IT and software architecture, a new generation of high-performance electric drive systems and batteries, and a new sustainable concept throughout the vehicle's lifecycle. BMW says the sixth generation of eDrive electric drive systems combine performance and cost control with new chemical and battery form.
One of BMW's longer-term goals is to have at least half of its total global sales of electric vehicles by 2030, and the number will exceed 1.5 million. By 2030, the BMW Group plans to deliver a total of 10 million pure electric vehicles to customers. At the same time, the other three major brands of the BMW Group will also be fully electrified.
BMW also plans to continue to promote the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology, and this year, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen hydrogen fuel cell vehicle will undergo small-scale mass production. It is expected that from the second half of the 2020s, hydrogen fuel cell technology will have an increasing proportion of the drive system portfolio.
In terms of manufacturing, BMW has created a new standard for its production network, BMW iFACTORY, which will be applied to all BMW Group plants worldwide, including three vehicle plants and one powertrain plant at the Shenyang production site. BMW said that the BMW iFACTORY represents BMW's strategic vision for production: lean, green and digital.
In BMW's strategic vision for production, lean stands for efficiency, precision and a high degree of flexibility, as well as the ability to integrate different drive technologies and vehicle architectures into production; green means production through state-of-the-art technology, minimal resource consumption and a circular economy model. BMW plans to reduce the carbon emissions of bicycles by 80% in production by 2030 compared to 2019; digitalization stands for the use of data science and artificial intelligence in production, and the integration of the real and virtual worlds in planning and development.
Construction of BMW's Debrecen plant in Hungary is scheduled to begin in June this year, and 26 months later, the prototype of the "new generation" model will roll off the production line here. In 2025, the "New Generation" model will be officially put into production at the plant. With the arrival of the "new generation" model, BMW is looking forward to entering a new golden age.
