Recently, the cover news learned from the BMW Group that the BMW iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle underwent a rigorous extreme cold endurance test at the BMW Group Winter Test Center in Arjeplug, Sweden. The overall functionality of hydrogen fuel cell drive systems, chassis technology and electrical and electronic systems is tested and validated at extremely low temperatures. It is reported that the BMW iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has entered the late research and development stage before mass production, and the small-scale mass production model will be put into production in the second half of 2022.

It is understood that hydrogen fuel cell models are a useful supplement for traditional internal combustion engine models, plug-in hybrid models and pure electric vehicle models. As a new green and sustainable mobility solution, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will help further achieve carbon emission reduction goals. In the research and development of hydrogen energy power systems, the BMW Group has accumulated more than 40 years of experience, with more than 20 years of experience in the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell technology.
It is worth mentioning that in the extreme cold environment, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is no less than the traditional internal combustion engine model. In ultra-low temperature climates, it is able to travel up to a maximum range of about 500 km. The hydrogen storage tank takes only 3-4 minutes to fill, and it is not affected in the cold winter.
In addition, the drive system of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle integrates hydrogen fuel cell technology with the fifth generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology. The innovative hydrogen fuel cell drive system provides a total output of 275 kW (374 hp), blending classic BMW sport driving fun with green sustainable travel, while the vehicle emits no exhaust gases other than water vapor, and the excess heat generated can be efficiently recovered for heating the cockpit.
In fact, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle embodies the latest electrification technology of the BMW Group, and the hydrogen fuel cell drive system fully explains BMW's deep accumulation and forward-looking leadership in the field of electric mobility, and will become a new member of the BMW Group's new energy product portfolio, providing solutions for green and sustainable travel for more customers around the world.
