Xu Shiyou only drank Moutai, the salary contraction could not afford to buy Moutai, and the staff's clever tricks were resolved (Part 2)

The battlefield is invincible, and the wine field is proud

As well-known as General Xu Shiyou's superb martial arts and outstanding battle achievements, it is his near-invincible amount of alcohol.

As early as the Eyu-Anhui base area period, Xu Shiyou was known for its good drinks and massive quantities of the Red Fourth Front. Whenever the enemy encircled and suppressed and the battle situation was urgent, Xu Shiyou would drink heavily and face the enemy with a full body of wine and wine.

Xu Shiyou's troops, led by his pioneers, also transformed into death squads, just like the shirtless tiger and wolf divisions of the Qin Dynasty during the Six Kingdoms period.

Since ancient times, it is not uncommon for drinking alcohol to miss military or even state affairs. It is precisely for this reason that since its establishment, the Red Army has vigorously grasped discipline building and strictly prohibited excessive drinking by generals at all levels.

Although Xu Shiyou has never been mistaken for alcohol, after all, the habit of alcoholism is contrary to the discipline of the army, and some people in the army are quite critical of this.

However, during the revolutionary war, many things did not necessarily adhere to dogma, and for a general with a prominent personality like Xu Shiyou, it was necessary to treat them differently. Therefore, during the Long March, the governor not only did not forbid Xu Shiyou to drink, but also equipped him with a porter to carry wine. Even at a meeting, the "Xu Shiyou Ordinance" was specially set up - only he could drink!

In order to avoid making mistakes, Xu Shiyou also made rules for himself, requiring himself not to drink alcohol when he deployed before the war, when the battle began, and when he suffered a defeat. The facts also corroborated the commander's high opinion, Xu Shiyou repeatedly repelled enemy incursions during the Long March, and escorted the main forces of the Red Army.

A more legendary story is that when the Red Army was passing through a cottage, a local ethnic minority leader known for "heavy drinking" heard about Xu Shiyou's prestige and wanted to try it. So he blocked the mountain road and let out a bold word - drink three bowls to pass this pass. Xu Shiyou also couldn't contain his excitement and immediately set up a table to meet the battle.

In order to kill Xu Shiyou's prestige, the leader ridiculed Xu Shiyou for drinking too small a bowl, and brought a "giant bowl" that was about the same size as the wine altar. Xu Shiyou had no fear, first drank three bowls and let the leader open the mountain gate; then drank three bowls, toasting a huge amount. The leader was already afraid, but he had to fight, drank the fifth bowl, and fell on his stomach.

Even though Xu Shiyou triumphed all the way on the battlefield and in the wine field, there were still hungry generals who could not drink wine who were deeply dissatisfied. So the commander again made it clear that if you could win every battle like him, if you could drink him, let you drink it specially!

There are still examples of Xu Shiyou's alcohol consumption. After the victory of the Long March, Xu Shiyou and his comrades gathered in a tavern in northern Shaanxi, drank five kilograms of spirits in just one meal, and ate more than thirty buns and nearly ten kilograms of mutton at the same time. The amount of food depends on the amount of alcohol, if you drink only, I am afraid that ten pounds can not be stopped.

Third, the salary is very high, not enough to buy alcohol

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xu Shiyou still did not change his habits of alcoholism, and he soon faced a small embarrassment.

As a senior general in the People's Liberation Army, Xu Shiyou's salary is not low, adding up to four hundred yuan per month, although the salary was later reduced, but it is also quite impressive.

In the case of Xu Shiyou's favorite Moutai wine, the market price at that time was more than one yuan per bottle. According to Xu Shiyou's income, he can buy about two hundred bottles a month, taking other expenses.

But buy more than you can't drink more, Xu Shiyou himself is already massive, plus feasting on comrades-in-arms and friends, two hundred bottles per month is obviously not enough.

Xu Shiyou is just and honest, naturally he will not embezzle and ask for bribes, so how can he exchange more wine money? The secretary gave advice, in addition to the normal salary income, Xu Shiyou also published biographies, memoirs and other works, and could buy wine with the remuneration.

Xu Shiyou categorically refused - all the remuneration is paid for the party, and it must not be used to buy alcohol! But later, he also had to come up with a part of the "subsidy".

In this dilemma, the secretary came up with a solution that was not the way to go, and he found a local winemaking teacher. Teacher Fu's winemaking technique is pure fire, and the taste of the wine he brews is similar to that of Maotai, and Xu Shiyou also loves this wine after tasting it.

So the secretary put the cottage Moutai into the bottle of the genuine Moutai, and Xu Shiyou could only take the fake Moutai to relieve the hunger.

Even if it is heroic, it is difficult to fight against the spirits and injure the body. Xu Shiyou's physical condition gradually began to weaken as he grew older. In the early 1980s, Xu Shiyou was diagnosed with liver disease. In order to prevent the deterioration of his condition, the doctor asked Xu Shiyou to quit drinking.

But Xu Shiyou couldn't stand it, so he secretly hid some Moutai wine in the corners of the room such as the bottom of the bed, shoe box, and ceiling, and took it out to relieve his addiction when no one was there.

So uncooperatively, his liver disease quickly worsened, and he died not long after. According to Xu Shiyou's last wishes, he was buried in the middle of the mountain in his hometown to make up for the regret of not being able to perform filial piety for his mother before his death.

As the only founding general in New China to be buried, Xu Shiyou's cemetery has also become an important part of the Eyu-Anhui Red Scenic Spot.

Today's tomb of Xu Shiyou, tourists come to pay homage to the shrine in an endless stream.

Unlike other historical sites, Xu Shiyou's tomb is filled with Moutai wine bottles offered by tourists. This is perhaps the most down-to-earth remembrance and remembrance of this alcoholic, maverick general.
