Brief and detailed descriptions in literary creation
For people who have just started writing serials, the most common problem is that they don't know where to elaborate and where to briefly describe, and this problem often bothers me.
For this reason, I studied with questions, and now, I will share my experience with you.
The painting presents the momentary experience of the viewer when they see the painting, while the music controls the rhythm. Literature and pictorial music are different in that they have their own unique forms of expression.
In the creation of novels, time can become flexible, or it can be reconstructed in new ways. The novel focuses on the period of time covered by the story, which is sometimes compressed and sometimes elongated.
There are two ways in which the novel deals with time: brief and detailed. Every great writer is familiar with this rule, but many beginners tend to ignore it.
The brief description covers a relatively long time in a relatively short space, and the detailed description covers a relatively long time in a relatively short time.
Brief description is a useful and necessary narrative technique: it can provide information, supplement the background of the characters, enable us to understand a certain motivation, change the pace, form a transition, and generate a time span. For example: Su Tong's novel "The Escape of 1934".
"1934 was a disaster year. It was a distant time when it no longer existed, and for me to be an old tree, I could sit on it and relive the vicissitudes of the world in 1934. As I sit on it, the first thing I see is my grandmother Chiang Kai-shek emerge from history.
Jiang's slender, slender feet were nailed to a cold, turbid rice field. It was about early spring and the peasant woman. ”
This is a typical conversion technique.
When you want your readers to pay complete attention to the content, you can use detailing and refine the content with all your skills, including dialogue, human language, smells, sounds, and thoughts.
Jiang's face was covered with mud, his cheeks protruding, and he lowered his head to listen to the sound of the baby in his belly. She felt like a barren mountain, cut down by men and planted one child tree after another. She heard the baby's voice as if the wind were blowing her, blowing a barren mountain. We only need to remember one basic principle: an encounter at a particular moment, a turning point at a particular moment, or a crisis that occurs at a particular moment, and such a moment is meaningful to the story and can only be described in detail, not in summary.
It is possible to write a short story in detail without a brief description, but many times, the novel author likes to use detailed and brief descriptions alternately, which will make the reader more interested in reading it and the reading experience is more perfect.
Final summary: we just need to understand where we need to write in detail, where we need to shorten, and how to transition between the two. When we read stories, we can pay purposeful attention to this problem and then practice them purposefully, so that we can master them.
