According to EV-Volumes, global sales of new energy models reached 6.5 million units in 2021, an increase of 108% compared with 3.1 million units last year. In particular, among the top ten models in terms of sales, five models of BYD, Ideal and Changan's three major independent brands were shortlisted.
It is worth mentioning that in December 2021, the number of registered new energy vehicles worldwide was 907,000, an increase of 59% compared with the same period last year. Among them, the sales volume of pure electric vehicle models accounted for 11%. The Tesla brand sold 936,172 vehicles in the whole year, ranking first among new energy vehicle brands for four consecutive years. BYD ranked second with sales of 593,878 vehicles, and runner-up was SAIC-GM-Wuling, with a total of 456,123 units sold in 2021.
In terms of model rankings, Tesla Model 3 sold more than 500,000 units in 2021, becoming the world's best-selling pure electric vehicle, and its other model, the Model Y, sold more than 410,000 units in the whole year, achieving the third place. The Sales of the Kookmin Rider Hongguang MINI EV ranked second with 424,000 units.
Among the top ten models in terms of sales, there is no shortage of byd BYD Qin Plus DM-i, Ideal ONE, BYD Han EV, BYD Song Pro/Plus DM-i and Changan BenBen E-Star and other best-selling domestic models on the list, in addition to rising sales in the local area, independent brands have opened the strategy of going to sea and won international market recognition.
