May sales up 10.7% y/y? GAC Toyota slapped itself in the face

With the rise of independent car brand car companies, Japanese cars represented by Toyota and Honda have seen a significant decline in sales since last year. As the only Japanese car company with annual sales of more than one million last year, GAC Toyota seems to be gaining momentum.

After selling 77,009 units in April, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%, GAC Toyota recently officially announced its May sales figures.

GAC Toyota officially announced that GAC Toyota sold 77,534 models in May, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%. In other words, GAC Toyota not only increased by 10.7% year-on-year, but also increased by 0.68% month-on-month. Although the increase is not high, it is also a year-on-year growth.

In addition, in its May sales data, GAC Toyota also announced that the sales volume of electrified models in May was 22,973 units, accounting for 30%. In January ~ May, the cumulative sales of intelligent hybrid models exceeded 100,000 units. As for the specific model sales, GAC Toyota officially did not announce in detail, only listed Fenglanda's sales data of 14,509 units in May, setting a new monthly sales high.

Judging from this sales data alone, GAC Toyota's May sales data is not bad. But after careful comparison, Che Kuai Review still found that it was tricky.

That is, in June last year, GAC Toyota announced that the sales data for May was 83,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 16.7%.

After comparison, it will be found that according to the official data released by GAC Toyota, in fact, GAC Toyota's sales in May this year not only did not increase by 10%, but also fell by 7.47%.

I really don't know if the employees of GAC Toyota responsible for releasing information have poor math scores, or GAC Toyota deliberately did it. All in all, the 10.7% year-on-year increase in sales in May made GAC Toyota slap itself in the face.

After talking about GAC Toyota's sales growth in May, let's talk about why GAC Toyota only announced the sales of Fenglanda, and the sales of other models did not announce this problem.

According to the April sales data released by the Passenger Association of China, only one model of GAC Toyota's entire range of models, Fenglanda, sold more than 10,000 in April. Monthly sales of other models are below 10,000 units. In addition, the sales of major models such as Camry, Highlander, and Veranda fell year-on-year in April.

However, it should be noted that the data released by the passenger association is a separate statistics of fuel vehicles and dual-engine hybrid models. For example, Camry, the fuel version sold 9,716 units in April, and the dual-engine hybrid version sold 3,095 units in April, and the total sales of the two together exceeded 10,000.
