Overcapacity? Domestic Accord and Odyssey are sold back to the Japanese market

Cars produced in Japan are imported into the domestic market, and we are very familiar with this operation. But have you ever seen a Japanese car produced in China shipped to Japan and sold in the Japanese market? Recently, Guangqi Honda has carried out "reverse output" in this way.

Two days ago, at the Xinsha Port terminal in Dongguan, Guangdong, a batch of Odyssey was loaded and ready to be shipped to Japan. These vehicles are produced by Guangqi Honda, and judging from the official propaganda, the Japanese market has accepted the product level made in China, and is ready to accept models made in China in large quantities. But from industry insiders, the situation may be more complicated than imagined.

Affected by the continuous impact of new energy vehicles, the sales of many models of Guangqi Honda have shrunk to varying degrees compared with before, for example, the original Fit sold more than 20,000 units a month, but now it has been stolen by BYD Dolphin to steal a lot of market, and the next month's sales have been less than 6,000 units. The new Accord originally sold 20,000+ units a month, but after the facelift, sales were only more than 6,000 units. The decline in sales of these models has led to a serious overcapacity of Guangqi Honda, and in order not to waste production capacity, it had to take this operation of returning to Japan.

But the shrewd Honda also felt the huge benefits, and the wage costs of Chinese workers were lower than those in Japan, and even lower logistics costs, electricity bills, water bills and so on. An authoritative third-party organization has estimated that the cost of manufacturing in Japan is 1.5-2 times that of China, even if the cost of shipping is included, it is cheaper than producing in Japan, so it is more cost-effective to introduce Japan through import.

Previously, Japanese media also bought the Wuling Hongguang miniev, which is popular in China, and brought it back to Japan for disassembly and analysis, and found that the electric car priced at 38,800 yuan had a production cost of about 28,000 yuan, which could not be reached in Japan.

In the future, Japan may focus more on design and development. Core production is more borne by countries or regions with lower manufacturing costs, such as China and Southeast Asia, which has formed a trend.
