This means that BYD has become the first car company in the world to officially stop production of fuel vehicles.

According to data from the China Automobile Association, domestic automobile production and sales in 2021 reached 26.082 million units and 26.275 million units, respectively, an increase of 3.4% and 3.8% year-on-year, respectively.

Among them, in 2021, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in the mainland reached 3.545 million units and 3.521 million units respectively, an increase of 1.6 times year-on-year, ranking first in the world for 7 consecutive years, and the market share reached 13.4%, which is equivalent to 1 out of every 8 cars sold is a new energy vehicle.

In addition, the export performance of new energy vehicles in the mainland is also quite prominent, with exports of 310,000 units in 2021, an increase of 3 times year-on-year.

In recent years, traditional car companies such as BYD and SAIC-GM-Wuling have accelerated the transformation of new energy tracks, while the development of new car-making forces such as Xiaopeng, Weilai and Ideal has been very rapid. In the TOP 15 models of New Energy Vehicle Sales in China in 2021, in addition to Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y, the rest are domestic independent brands, and this has been the norm in the past two years.

In addition, according to the current situation, the goal of "new energy vehicle sales reaching 20% of the total sales of new vehicles in 2025" previously formulated by the mainland in the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)" may be completed ahead of schedule. In 2022, China's new energy vehicle sales are expected to exceed 5 million. In 2035, the sales volume of new energy vehicles is expected to account for more than 60%.
