In other words, consumers who are only now ready to order Volkswagen Group's electric vehicles must be mentally prepared, because the delivery time will not be until at least next year. Some brands and models may have longer wait times. This year, the Volkswagen Group has indeed received a lot of demand for electric vehicles, with 300,000 orders in the Western European market alone in the past five months.
Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said that due to the influx of orders, the quotas in the United States and Europe have basically been sold out this year, and the number of orders received in the Chinese market continues to increase. In addition to waiting for more than half a year, affected by the continuous rise in raw materials, the price of new cars has soared, and consumers are likely to have to pay a higher price to buy electric vehicles.
In the first quarter of this year, volkswagen group total electric vehicle sales of almost 100,000 units, the European market handed over about 30,000 vehicles. The full-year target includes the Chinese market, hoping to sell 700,000 electric vehicles, so the progress of the first quarter is not ideal. As a result, an average of 200,000 new cars will have to be produced each season to achieve the original target. As for the previous best, it was only nearly 160,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Volkswagen did not disclose how many orders were received in the United States and the European market, but there are about 300,000 electric vehicles waiting to be delivered in Western Europe alone, and even if the 30,000 vehicles that have been delivered are deducted, there is still a gap of 270,000 vehicles, which has greatly increased the load on the European factories of the Volkswagen Group brands. In the US market, the production capacity left after the suspension of production of the US regulation Passat will not be connected until this summer at the earliest, so the lack of cars may not be so quick to explain.
