In February, passenger car sales totaled 1.250 million units, up 4.5% year-on-year, and fell 39.0% month-on-month as February coincided with the Spring Festival. Cumulative sales from January to February totaled 3.328 million units, down 1.6% y/y.
In terms of SUVs, SUV sales in February reached 587,000 units, an increase of 3.2% year-on-year, and cumulative sales in January and February were 1.562 million units, down 0.8% year-on-year.
February SUV sales list: BYD 2 models on the list, the Japanese rebound significantly
Overall, the SUV market performance in February was still good, with sales of more than 20,000 models, namely BYD Song and Dongfeng Honda CR-V. Sales of only four models in the top 15 of the list fell year-on-year.
In terms of independent brands, BYD Song rode the dust, with a performance of 24,532 vehicles, an increase of 298.8% year-on-year, ranking first in the list. Bydie Tang also performed well, selling a total of 10,026 vehicles in February, a year-on-year surge of 677.8%, entering the top ten of Bonda, which is also the first time that the BYD Tang series has been listed. The BYD brand as a whole also became the champion of independent brand sales in February with nearly 90,000 vehicles, and the proportion of new energy models was extremely high.
In addition to BYD's 2 models, there are also 5 self-owned brand models on the list. Haval H6, which has been ranked first for many years, sold 18,790 vehicles in February, down nearly 40% from the same period last year, ranking 3rd; Changan CS75 series also declined to a certain extent, ranking 6th, but with the listing of the second-generation CS75 PLUS, I believe its sales can be further improved. Auchan X5 sold 10,234 units, basically the same as last year. Trumpchi GS4 and Hongqi HS5 have improved significantly from last year, ranking 11th and 15th respectively.
Sales of Japanese SUVs in February increased significantly from the previous month, with a total of five models on the list. Dongfeng Honda CR-V rose to second place with a record of 22,260 units. Faw Toyota RAV4 also fell from January to 5th place in February. At the same time, including XR-V, Binzhi, Qashqai and other models, all showed positive year-on-year growth.
The Germans still only have SAIC Volkswagen Tiguan on the list, but sales have declined to a certain extent compared with the same period last year.
In terms of high-end models, Tesla Model Y sales reached 18593 units, or relatively strong, there was a significant increase year-on-year, ranking 4th in the total list of SUVs. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz GRC increased by 16.4% year-on-year, ranking 12th in the list. None of the remaining high-end SUVs made it into the top 15.
In terms of SUV accumulation from January to February, Haval H6 is the only model with a cumulative total of more than 50,000 vehicles, still ranking first; but BYD Song also performed strongly, up 119.1% year-on-year, ranking second, and the gap between the first is not large, or looking forward to their performance behind.
At the same time, the recovery of high-end models is more significant, in addition to the Model Y, Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Audi Q5 are also on the list, compared with the second half of last year is obviously breathless.

Mercedes-Benz GLB sold 3,030 units, down nearly 30% year-on-year, ranking 9th. The Audi Q5L improved in february, with sales of 8,859 units, although it is still down from the same period last year. The BMW X3 ranked 4th with a record of 8819 vehicles.
The ideal ONE also performed well, delivering a total of 8,414 units in February, which was basically the same as the sales volume of the first echelon and the highest selling model among the new forces. The ranking of other models in the second echelon, such as the Cadillac XT5, Volvo XC60 and Tuon, was basically unchanged from the previous month.
In terms of cumulative sales of high-end SUVs from January to February, the Model Y ranked first, but the gap with the Mercedes-Benz GLC is not large. After all, 2022 has just begun, there are still many changes possible, but it is undeniable that in the high-end SUV market, Model Y is indeed a strong opponent of the BBA.
