BBA first quarter earnings: BMW made more than 10 billion euros, and new energy still does not dominate

Recently, car companies have released the first quarter of the financial report, Xiaobian this time to talk about the BBA with high attention. The reason why I want to talk about BBA is mainly because, first, there is a clear difference in the first quarter financial report data between BBA and second, in February this year, the BMW Group's joint venture in China, BMW Brilliance, changed its stake. Therefore, combined with the above two points, the first quarter of the BBA's financial report is worth analyzing.

BBA first quarter earnings: BMW made more than 10 billion euros, and new energy still does not dominate

Let's briefly describe each of them. As shown in the table above, in the first quarter, BMW's revenue was 31.142 billion euros, an increase of 16.3% year-on-year, and net profit was 10.185 billion euros, an increase of 259.5% year-on-year; Audi's revenue was 14.282 billion euros, an increase of 1.5% year-on-year, and net profit was 3.468 billion euros, an increase of 147%; Mercedes-Benz revenue was 34.858 billion euros, an increase of 6% year-on-year, and net profit was 3.59 billion euros, an increase of 3% year-on-year.

In terms of revenue, BMW's revenue capacity is still stronger than Audi and Mercedes-Benz, but from the perspective of year-on-year growth, in the past, Mercedes-Benz's net profit performance was the best, followed by Audi, and finally BMW. And this time, in the first quarter of 2022, BMW began to counterattack, and the increase was very strong.

However, the increase or decrease in sales, the three companies do not have too obvious differences. Specifically, in the first quarter of this year, BMW's global sales were 519,796 units, Audi's 385,084 units, Mercedes-Benz's 487,008 units, and all three of them declined, with a range of about 10%.

Sales have declined, and the revenue growth rate is not too exaggerated, why does BMW's net profit have a staggering increase of 259.5%? As we all know, in February this year, the BMW Group's stake in BMW Brilliance, a joint venture in China, was changed to 75%, and as early as March, BMW Brilliance Executives mentioned: "BMW Brilliance will bring a one-time positive impact of 7 billion to 8 billion euros to the Group, directly increasing the revenue of the automotive sector." ”

It can be seen that the gold absorption capacity of China's automobile market is definitely one of the best in the world. Based on this conclusion, let's move on.

In the first quarter, BMW sold 208,507 units in China, accounting for 40.11% of the total global sales; Audi sales in China were 161,621 units, accounting for 41.97% of the total global sales; Mercedes-Benz sales in China were 192,077 units, accounting for 39.44% of the total global sales.

It should be known that the proportion of sales in China in the first quarter is amazing, but this is already the result of the decline in sales, that is to say, before this, whether it is BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz sales in China, the share of the world is very high.

In other words, the BBA is already very dependent on the Chinese auto market, and if it loses its competitiveness in this big market, the consequences are unimaginable. Why is there such a concern? First of all, the data shows that in the first quarter, BBA sales in China have experienced a relatively serious decline, and the decline is greater than the total global sales; secondly, the Chinese auto market is gradually and rapidly transforming to new energy, but it is clear that BBA does not have an advantage in this field.

In fact, whether it is BMW, Audi or Mercedes-Benz, the three are speeding up the launch of new energy products, but from the perspective of consumers, those who can consume BBA will still be more willing to buy BBA's traditional fuel models; in addition, from the perspective of cost performance and intelligence, BBA does not have any advantages.

Auto Network Review: Following the wave of new energy, BMW should go the fastest

In the face of China's new energy wave, Xiaobian believes that BMW should be the fastest, after all, the dominance is on the side of the BMW Group, and it can get more profits, hoping for greater changes this year. As for Audi and Mercedes-Benz, they also have their own advantages, such as the smart genie #1 developed by Mercedes-Benz and Geely. In particular, the establishment of Audi, the Chinese subsidiary of volkswagen brand CARIAD, indicates that it will make a big effort in the domestic new energy market.
