In Monday's fourth game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will be absent. The Warriors reportedly said. Warriors coach Steve Kerr tested positive for COVID-19 Monday night and will be replaced by deputy head coach Mike Brown in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Memphis Grizzlies. Recently reported that the Sacramento Kings hired Brown as their next head coach on a four-year contract, though he will remain with the Warriors throughout the playoffs.
The Warriors can at least take comfort from Brown's vast experience in the playoffs. Brown, a former Cavaliers and Lakers coach, has helped his friend Kerr on several occasions — he has experience coaching the playoffs. In the course of the Warriors' championship in 2017, he led the Warriors to the playoffs with an 11-0 record, while Kerr was sidelined due to debilitating symptoms caused by complications from back surgery. Kerr returned to Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
He has been with the team since the 2016-17 season and has played in three NBA Finals and two championships. Brown served as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005–06 to 2009–10 and 2013–14 and reached the Finals with LeBron James in 2007. He was also the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011-12 season and helped the Purple Gold reach the Western Conference semifinals.
As for Cole, Anthony Slater noted that Cole has been wearing a mask for the past few days and speaking hoarsely at the most recent news conference. The Golden State Warriors led the entire series 2-1, a game defined as more than just a basketball game.
Drummond Green was banished for a blatant foul in the first game and then in the second game, when he left the pitch bleeding, he was booed by the Memphis crowd. Dylan Brooks was sent off in game two and suspended in game three for a serious foul that left Gary Payton II with a broken elbow. Ja Morant was injured in the third game, possibly because Jordan Poole grabbed his knee.
