The first time I heard of the name "Third Line" was when I was in elementary school, probably in 1979. At that time, a new classmate came to the class, and his name was "Three Lines".

We all called him "three-liner." Ten-year-old children, do not understand anything, Quan Dang is the same name as us, or the teacher told us the story behind this name -

His father left his hometown and went to the northwest to participate in the construction of the country's third line, so he gave him the name of this special mark. The parents didn't have time to take care of the child, so they sent him back to his hometown in the countryside and mixed with us country children.

We still don't understand what the "third line" is, but we know that it must be far away from us, which is a very important and even great thing. The "three lines" and "three lines" have entered our childhood and remained in our memories.

When I grew up, I understood the real greatness of the third line -- the construction of a strategic rear area that occurred in the 1960s and 1970s, when China and the Soviet Union were at odds and the United States was in a state of flux on China's southeast coast, which made great contributions to enhancing the mainland's national defense strength, improving the layout of productive forces, and industrialization in China's central and western regions.

Sichuan-Qianqian, Chengkun Railway, Liupan Hydropower Station, Pingdingshan Thermal Power Station, Sichuan, Hebei, Hubei 8 oil and gas fields, Panzhihua Iron and Steel Plant, Gansu Jiuquan Steel Plant, Guizhou Aluminum Factory, etc. These are all masterpieces of the third line, and some people say that the third line has made progress in the southwest deserted area for 50 years.

At this point, the image of the "three lines" in my mind is still only majestic, shocking and remarkable.

It wasn't until May 2017, when I walked to Panzhihua and walked into the China Third Line Construction Museum, when I saw the slogan of the old man's "if the third line construction can't get up, I can't sleep", saw the labor scene in the early stage of the third line construction, and listened to the narrator tell those tear-jerking stories, I really understood the difficulties behind the greatness and the sacrifices behind the achievements.

Panzhihua Airport is just above the top of the mountain, at the end of the runway is the cliff, surrounded by valleys, known as the airport on the edge of the cliff. The first time I went to Panzhihua, I didn't expect the plane to land on the top of the mountain, which really scared me at the time, and I thought that the plane was going to crash into the mountain.

It is in this mountainous valley and deep valley, intertwined basins, that 100,000 construction troops gathered on the banks of the Jinsha River, which lasted five years, and forced a modern "ivory micro-carved steel city" in this barren land.

No water, no electricity, no roads, no cars, no housing, even the minimum living conditions are not available, "three stones set up pots, tents are set up in mountain nests" "during the day, at night the bar is pressed", Chinese completely rely on their own strength to build the first super large steel enterprise in New China.

There is no house to live in, no bed to sleep, there is a curtain on the ground; there is no water for life and production, so we give full play to the advantages of manpower, from the Jinsha River to the top of the mountain, barrel by bucket to pass the water to the mountain. These builders who rush from the north and south of the world are passionate, "don't want to father and mother, don't want to baby and home, don't go home without iron."

How can people not want their father and mother, not to read their children and not to miss home, but home is too far away for them, they can only be in their dreams in the tear-soaked pillow, the way home is too long.

To get home, you have to get on the train first. However, the railway station is 740 kilometers away in Chengdu, you have to take a bus to Xichang, and then transfer all the way from Xichang to Chengdu, to cross the mud mountain with snow all year round, all the way is a dangerous road, and there is no week to Chengdu.

I can't go home at all, and going home is just a fantasy and a luxury. Therefore, from Liaoning, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and other places, to this ravine thousands of miles away, they have no intention of going home.

Later, with the continuous advancement of the construction of the third line and the opening of the Chengdu-Kunming Railway, on that day, the Panzhihua people cried a lot.

Panzhihua had a train station, and they finally had a way home. Panzhihua Railway Station, for Panzhihua people, it is not only a station, but also a starting point that can lead to their home, which is their home door.

Listening to the narrator talk about this, I couldn't help but shed tears in the corners of my eyes, and I also remembered the elementary school classmate "Three Lines". It was as if he saw his parents' reluctance when they sent him back to his hometown, and the scene when they missed their distant home and son in the arduous work shed.

Li Shenzhao, an 82-year-old native of Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, who is now enjoying his old age in Panzhihua, clearly remembers that the secretary and president of his research institute were old revolutionaries who came from the Liberation War and the War of Resistance Against Japan, and lived in grass houses and canteens like them, without exception.

On the contrary, at the same level, the salaries of Communists are 2 yuan lower than those of the ordinary masses.

Qi Wei, a native of Laiwu County, Shandong Province, lao Balu, was already the deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Coal Department before he went to Panzhihua. In January 1965, he left his wife and children and went to baoding mountain.

In the wilderness, they had been in the wilderness for 28 consecutive days and nights, and Qi Wei, like the staff, had not taken a hot bath, had not eaten a piece of meat, and had not seen a single piece of green vegetables. After 16 consecutive months of hard work, baoding coalfield with an annual output of 150,000 tons was finally built.

In May 1971, Qi Wei suddenly fainted, and the hospital examined it, which was already advanced lung cancer. On the hospital bed, he wrote in his notebook: "Build Panzhihua alive, die and bury panzhihua!" After a month of surgery, he returned to Panzhihua, carrying a stick, going down to the grass-roots level day and night, listening to reports and research work, and his condition worsened day by day.

Before dying, Qi Wei smiled and said to the workers who came to visit: "After I die, please bury me on Baoding Mountain, and let me watch Panzhihua produce coal, iron and steel day and night." ”

These stories remind me of "Three Lines", I don't know what his parents are doing in the Three Lines, but it feels like the figures in the museum are his parents. I don't know when their family was reunited? Where are they now?

I believe that the "three-line child" has a deeper understanding of the third line, he is the witness of that great construction and that special era; and the third line is not only a great construction, but also a spirit, thousands of "three-line children" parents spelled out the three-line spirit of hard work, selfless dedication, unity and cooperation, and courage to innovate.

Let's pay tribute to the third-line builders! Hats off to the third-line spirit!
