American skier fell and fractured after treatment thanks to Chinese medical care

A U.S. team spokesperson recently confirmed that American skier Nina O'Brien withdrew from the Winter Olympics with a fractured left leg caused by a serious fall accident in a super big slalom event. The 24-year-old female athlete finished sixth after the first round but hit the penultimate gate in the second round and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

O'Brien later spoke about his injury on social media: "Last night I had surgery to stabilize my tibia and unfortunately I had an open fracture in my leg. After that, I'll recuperate at home, but now I'm recovering well. I would like to say thank you to all those who took care of me, especially those who rushed to my side at the end of the line and the doctors and nurses I have in Yanqing."

"I was a little heartbroken, but I also felt so much love, thank you to all the people who reached out. The good news is that today is a new day – I can cheer on my teammates, wish you all the best of luck and enjoy the game."
