Is it not unusual for such a person to obtain the Dao without using it, and to die without regretting it?
Interestingly, Zhu Xi, the great Confucian of the Song Dynasty, also encountered a similar situation.
When he said this sentence when he was teaching, the student asked: Teacher, the master said that he understood the Tao in the morning, and it didn't hurt to die at night. Is it enough to just understand?
How did Zhu Xi answer? He said, of course, Confucius hopes that after you understand the Tao, you can live well, even if you live for two more years, and do good deeds, so that it is better to die again!
In fact, neither Zhu Xi nor we fully understood Confucius.
The year before, I occasionally turned to the Bible and saw the martyrdom of Jesus.
Jesus was crucified and recited the Gospels before his death.
He was also tortured by two robbers, one nailed to his left and one to his right.
The robber on the left laughed at Jesus: "I heard you are the Son of God?" If you really are Christ, why don't you cast a spell to save us all, and then we honor you as the leader and continue to do something great?
The robber on the right was angry when he heard him say this.
He said to the robber on the left: You better not talk, we have killed more people in our lives, we have done all kinds of bad things, and today we deserve to be crucified. But everyone in the world knows that Jesus did not do anything bad in this life and was wronged.
He went on to say to Jesus: If you are truly the Son of God, please remember me!
Jesus immediately said to him, "We will meet in heaven tonight."
I thought, Jesus' breath is so great!
The robber on the right may not have done any good in his life, but before he was crucified, he thought about it, knew how to sympathize with Jesus, knew how to repent, and Jesus said, OK, this is enough, tonight he ascended to heaven.
How similar to what Confucius said! Asahina said, death is enough
Only then did he realize that what Confucius was talking about was actually a religious realm.
When people live in the world, they don't have to worry about how many good things they have done, but they must value whether your heart has turned to this side of the light.
If not, always engage in selfishness, engage in the estrangement of people and me, no matter how you do good deeds, it is useless.
Moreover, doing good requires all kinds of opportunities and conditions, there is a saying that "the family is poor out of filial piety, and the country is chaotic and loyal", filial piety and loyalty are not something that anyone can do at any time.
As long as a person crosses the threshold of "enlightenment" and his mind becomes enlightened, there will be light, and everything is worth doing; the mind has no enlightenment, and no matter how many good deeds he does, it is only a quantitative accumulation, without qualitative change.
Buddhism has a similar saying, it is very simple, just eight words" put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the ground."
Did he tell you to put down the butcher's knife and do more good deeds, wait a few months, and then become a Buddha in a few years? No.
Jesus, Shakyamuni, and Confucius, the teachers of the human spirit, are all connected in human nature. Look back at this religious sentiment of Confucius: in the morning, I understand the right path of life, I understand why I was born and why I died, even if I give my life at night, I have no regrets.
