At that time, Bataizi Village wanted to build a brick kiln, and in order to combine the flat land inside and outside the Great Wall into one, the village party secretary commanded bulldozers to destroy a 60-meter section of the Great Wall. That day, in the face of the huge wound that was bleeding from the Great Wall in front of him, Dong Yao would immediately rush over to stop it. Faced with such a situation, they went straight to the county government. In the end, Dong Yao used a hand-cranked telephone to report directly to the secretary of the Yanbei Prefectural Party Committee. Later, the saboteurs were punished, and the major media also exposed the incident, preventing more incidents of vandalism of the Great Wall.
