One day in May 1944, Zhou Yuxiang and his comrades entered the position of Laoguan Mountain in Tianxiang, the Japanese army attacked, Zhou Yuxiang's body trembled, and Xie Shoucai took a kettle to let him drink water to calm down. When the Japanese army was about 50 meters away from them, they heard a whistle, the squad leader threw out two or three grenades, and Zhou Yuxiang snapped the motor gun to strafe, then he did not tremble.
Zhou Yuxiang, a native of Changsha County, Hunan Province, joined the army in August 1943 and was assigned to the Changyue Division for training for half a year. On February 6, 1944, Zhou Yuxiang and the recruits arrived in Jinji County, Jiangxi Province, and joined the Heavy Regiment, and the troops sent him a flat burden. Zhou Yuxiang said to the company commander, "Why do you send me a flat burden, I don't know how to pick it up." Zhou Yuxiang went to the first-line infantry team of the 26th Army to learn to play machine guns, and after more than a month of training, he was incorporated into the 9th Company of the 131st Regiment of the 44th Division as a machine gunner.
In May 1944, Zhou Yuxiang and his troops went from Major General Gui county to Tianxiang Laoguan, detoured 1300 miles, and took 11 days to arrive. He felt that eating was resting, and when he arrived at Laoguan, the guards stood and fell asleep. After waiting for 3 days, the Japanese army did not come. On the 4th day, they were ordered to enter the hilltop position, and soon the Japanese attacked. Zhou Yuxiang asked Xie Shoucai if he could fight, and the squad leader said that he could not fight without receiving the order. Seeing that Zhou Yuxiang's body was trembling, Captain Xie ban asked him to drink water and calm down. When the Japanese were about 50 meters away from them, they heard a whistle, and the platoon leader ordered: "Get ready to throw grenades!" Xie Banchang threw out two or three grenades in a row, Zhou Yuxiang kept buckling the motor gun to strafe, he didn't know how many devils had been knocked down, the Japanese army retreated, then he did not tremble.
Zhou Yuxiang saw the white flag that the Japanese army had thrown in front of the position, 1 red cannon in the middle, and there were words on the side, and he was very curious to take a look at it. Before Captain Xie could speak, he jumped out of his position to grab the flag, and the squad leader beckoned him to lie down, and Zhou Yuxiang crawled in with several heels, at which time the Japanese 3 bullets hit him. Captain Xie took the flag and threw it on the ground and said, "You don't want your life, do you want this broken thing?" Nothing outside the position can be easily asked for, it will kill people! ＂
In June 1944, Zhou Yuxiang accompanied the troops in the Area of Ningyuan and Jianghua. The Japanese army attacked Lixi Cave, Zhou Yuxiang's machine gun fired eighty or ninety rounds of ammunition in one go, shooting down five or six charging Japanese troops, shaking the whole body with pain, clear water flowing from the ears, and the Japanese army was repelled. Later, they blocked in the direction of the Self-Talk Bridge, and during the counter-attack, the two regiments were ambushed by the Japanese army, and Xie Shoucai's squad leader was killed by a cold gun in the forehead, and Zhou Yuxiang was extremely uncomfortable.
From Hunan into Guangxi, to pass through a place called Mangshan in Ningyuan, Zhou Yuxiang and another comrade-in-arms did not keep up with the large troops, after which he broke away from the 26th Army, ran to Xiangtan, walked to the ditch to climb the ridge, and prepared to cross the river from Xiangtan and run home from the west of the river. When he reached the ditch and climbed the ridge, Zhou Yuxiang was blocked by the 183rd Division, and the commander saw that he was still young, so he asked him to stay in the company headquarters, and when the troops arrived in Changsha, they carried him back. This unit was the 3rd Machine Gun Company of the 549th Regiment of the 183rd Division of the New 3rd Army, and after one or two days, everyone was very familiar with it.
On March 6, 1945, Zhou Yuxiang and the company touched the edge of Suichuan City all the way, quietly killed the Sentries of the Japanese Army, ignited or fired signal flares, red means not moving, green means advancing, and white means arrival. The troops attacked continuously, the Japanese suffered heavy casualties, the 549th Regiment blocked a dozen on the other side of the river, and the small troops of the devils escaped.
In May 1945, the weather was very cold, and the Japanese army came down from Ganzhou, took Ji'an, Taihe, and marched towards Hunan. The troops were to garrison Majiazhou in the Phoenix District of Taihe County, and the large troops were in the rear, first sending 1 machine gun platoon and 1 infantry platoon, and the platoon leader wanted Zhou Yuxiang to go with him. Zhou Yuxiang fell ill and swung his head, and when he met the battalion commander, he threw two flat burdens at Zhou Yuxiang, and then took it with him to get an injection and said, "If you can't go, you will die there." The battalion commander gave up his horse and asked Zhou Yuxiang to ride on it. Riding on the horse, Zhou Yuxiang sweated and was very light. Later, he wanted to return the horse to the battalion commander, and the groom said, "No, the battalion commander said he was going to send you to Taehwa."
In Majiazhou, the troops encountered a three-way junction, one leading to Hunan, one to Taihe, and one to Wan'an. Zhou Yuxiang and his comrades-in-arms blocked the road to Hunan with two heavy machine guns and two light machine guns. Zhou Yuxiang said: "If the vanguard of the Japanese army comes, they should not use rifles when they start to move, but directly use machine guns." The Japanese army came, Zhou Yuxiang's machine gun fired, the Japanese army died more than a dozen and then stopped, at this time the regiment commander and battalion commander came, sent 1 platoon to take the defense.
The Japanese army stubbornly resisted behind Ji'an, 1 Hengshan Hill, and the 183rd Division attacked for 3 days without capturing. After contacting the superiors, at 7 o'clock, chennault's Flying Tiger Team at Zhijiang Airport provided air superiority, and the Flying Tigers came with a total of 5 planes, and when they came, they took machine guns and shot at it from a commanding height, each bullet was about 5 meters apart, and Zhou Yuxiang and the troops attacked again.
On August 3, 1945, Zhou Yuxiang and his comrades chased the Japanese all the way to Gao'an Lotus Pond, and the whole regiment was blocked by the Japanese army, losing more than 400 people. Zhou Yuxiang and the whole platoon dug into a long hole, and above it was the Japanese army. They hid in the cave without moving, ate at 4 a.m., never replenished anything after the battle began, and starved for a day. After dark, they slowly touched it and saw several ordinary people kneeling, and 4 Japanese troops torturing them on the position.
Zhou Yuxiang and 3 comrades-in-arms crawled forward, secretly circled behind the Japanese army, stabbed one by one, and killed 4 ghosts on the spot. At this time, the people all stood up, knew that they had not eaten, and brought food and guarded them. As soon as Zhou Yuxiang finished eating, he went to look for the troops, and they learned from a platoon commander that Japan had announced its unconditional surrender yesterday.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhou Yuxiang returned to Changsha and joined the Sixth Joint Defense Zone, and later joined the People's Liberation Army in 1949 with the army uprising. Zhou Yuxiang died in June 2013 at the age of 88.
