Nine products in the right system

It was not until after the collapse of the Han Dynasty that the central government made a major change to the inspection system, which is the famous Jiupin Zhongzheng system. The Jiupin Zhongzheng system began in Cao Wei and was fixed in the Jin Dynasty. As we all know, this system led to the rise of the door valve, but in the beginning, the central government did not formulate this system to cultivate the door valve, its original intention was to transfer the power of inspection from the local to the central government. The rise of the door valve is an unplanned product.

The Nine-Pin Zhongzheng system is roughly like this: the essence of the inspection is still retained, but the criteria such as "virtue and high" are no longer used, but the examiner is allowed to evaluate the characters, divided into nine grades from "up" to "down". No one can get the first product, and the second product is the highest level. The higher the grade, the higher the official quality at the time of entry. Generally speaking, there is a difference of about four products between character and official products. That is to say, if it is judged as a "second product", then the starting official position you hold is about six pin officials. Of course, there is a question here, who will "taste"? If you follow the method of the Han Dynasty, it should be a local official. But the Wei and Jin court took this power back. It had central officials serve concurrently as "Zhongzheng" officials of states and counties to review the characters.

If you look at it roughly, this seems to be not much different from the Inspection system of the Han Dynasty, but in fact there are two big differences here. First of all, in the Han Dynasty, you were filial piety, and I was also filial piety, and everyone was equal when they entered the career, but the Nine Pins Zhongzheng system divided the officials into strict ranks. The second big difference is that the power of this evaluation is concentrated, especially in the hands of the "state zhongzheng". Local officials have to take into account local public opinion, and it is the central officials in the state who have far less concerns in this regard. As long as it can create momentum and build a personal brand, the grassroots of the Han Dynasty can often counterattack, but during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Southern Dynasty, this path was slowly closed. How about you keep filial piety for thirty years? The state is not to buy your account, is to give you a seven products and eight products, what can you do?

Let a small circle of people go and then choose the next wave of small circles, the result can be imagined, the senior position soon becomes their bag, this small circle also becomes the so-called door valve. At the beginning, everyone may still feel unfair, but over time, everyone is accustomed to this situation, thinking that things should be like this, the unspoken rules have become clear rules, and the Zhongzheng people directly use the genealogical lineage to give people a grade. "The lower product has no power, the upper product has no cold door" is the case. Of course, this is a subtle long-term process, and when the Nine-Pin Zhongzheng system was just implemented, everyone could not have expected this result.

The "cold door" is not the worst, they at least have the opportunity to take up low-level official positions. As for the lower-level "servants", there is not even a chance to be evaluated. In this way, Chinese society has once again become strongly hierarchical. However, it is still different from the aristocratic society of the Western Zhou And Spring and Autumn Period. In feudal aristocratic societies, the nobility had clear privileges and obligations to both superiors and subordinates. For the gentry, all the privileges and all the benefits seem to have been stolen temporarily from this social system, and therefore there is no corresponding obligation. In contrast to the nobility, the gentry were exempted from a sense of responsibility. And once the sense of responsibility does not exist, the sense of honor becomes a simple arrogance. The shi clan soon degenerated, far more than the nobles of the Spring and Autumn Period. By the end of the Southern Dynasty, the shi clan had become a group of wastes in Yan Zhitui's pen, "all of them are still praised, the big crown is high, the car is out, the entry is supported, the suburban Guo, there is no horse rider... Jiankang ordered Wang Fu, who was both polite and elegant in nature, and did not try to ride, and saw the horse hissing Lu Liang. If you are not deterred, you will say: 'It is the tiger, why is it called Mahu?' Of course, such a group of depraved wastes could not control power forever, and power eventually flowed slowly from their hands like sand to the hands of the "cold people". The Nine-Pin Zhongzheng System has lost its meaning of existence. After about four hundred years of continuing, with the rise of the Sui and Tang Empires, this system finally withered away.
