The young woman covered her face and wept: "I really have no way, the county order wants our family to offer snakes." Neighbors who wanted to follow their husbands up the mountain to catch snakes were bitten to death, and the people in the village had to pay for snakes to pay for errands. My family has no money, and my husband questions whether the snake is fake, and who wants to be arrested and charged by the government. ”
Li Shizhen was very confused, the snake is indeed a precious medicinal material, the main treatment of wind paralysis, shock, ringworm. Although it walks like a fly, its teeth are sharp and poisonous, and it bites people lightly or amputates, and heavy bites kill, but this white flower snake should be found everywhere.

On this day, Li Shizhen sent away the young woman who came to kneel and thank her, and her heart suddenly felt anxious. At this time, he finally understood that the way of medicine was not the eight strands of literature he had learned in his early years, and it was better to read ten thousand volumes than to walk thousands of miles.
When the people of Puzhou beat gongs and drums to thank Li Shizhen, he took his apprentice and son to bid farewell to his wife who was reluctant to give up, and began a 27-year-long road of seeking medical treatment.
They once passed by a caravanserai and saw a few grooms boiling drum flowers with roots and leaves around a small pot. Through the groom's narration, it was known that the wild grass alias whirling flower, boiled soup and drank the blood, and immediately recorded the use of this medicine.
Through years of visits, research and treatment, they collected many folk remedies and cured many poor people's stubborn diseases.

Li Shizhen finally spent 27 years, not afraid of life and death, correcting the deficiencies of the medical codes left by his predecessors, adding hundreds of prescriptions found by the people, attaching nearly a thousand illustrations, all of which were included in the "Compendium of Materia Medica".
In order to publish this book, Li Shizhen knelt in front of Wang Shizhen of Taicang at the age of more than 60 years, and finally spent ten years to publish it after a second revision. Unfortunately, he did not see the book published before his death.
In 1596, the "Compendium of Materia Medica" was published, which collected 1892 kinds of herbs, with 1100 medicinal patterns and 11096 kinds of prescriptions. This book was issued under the approval of Shenzong himself and eventually became the treasure of Chinese medicine.
