Navigation assisted driving systems are becoming an important configuration for blockbuster smart cars. After Tesla created the precedent of NOA, many domestic car companies have followed up, and many explosive models have been born.

In early December 2021, the navigation assistance system that the ideal owner has been waiting for for a long time was finally launched, which added another highlight to the ideal ONE, which is already a phenomenon-level explosive product for medium and large SUVs.

In order to make the experience more intuitive and visual, we invited a special guest, the Xiaopeng P7 equipped with NGP, to participate in the comparison test.

As a coupe, Xiaopeng P7 not only has a outstanding appearance, but also has an enviable intelligent interior. More than 60,000 units were sold in 2021, and 7,459 units were delivered in the past December, which is also a blockbuster model.

It is also equipped with the navigational driver assistance system NGP, which is highly praised in the industry for its stable function.

In January 2021, the NGP public beta version of Xiaopeng Auto Navigation Assisted Driving was released, and in the past year, Xiaopeng owners have used NGP to drive more than 20 million kilometers, with a cumulative driving time of more than 200,000 hours.

Part I

Up and down the ramp: Xiaopeng is radical and idealistic

In this part we mainly look at:

How do vehicles enter the main road?

How to reasonably drive out of the ramp?

What is the driving condition in the ramp?

(1) The ramp merges into the main road

When the ramp is joined to the main road, the ideal ONE is at the end of the auxiliary road to begin the operation of the main road, while the Xiaopeng P7 begins to merge into the main road as soon as it leaves the ramp.

If it is a short-distance highway, the choice of both vehicles is basically to the first and second lanes on the right side, rather than making redundant lane changes, and the success rate of both sides in the operation of the main road is very high.

But here we want to highlight the performance of the Xiaopeng P7 when switching from the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway to the Outer Ring Expressway.

Xiaopeng P7 came out of the ramp and was ready to merge into the Outer Ring Expressway, when a large truck suddenly broke into the left front of the Xiaopeng P7, and there were vehicles driving in the left rear of the Xiaopeng P7, at this time, the reaction of the Xiaopeng P7 was like an old driver, while controlling the speed, while waiting for the opportunity to merge into the main road.

I didn't take over the process, I just wanted to see where its extreme performance was, but fortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.

(2) Enter the ramp

When it is necessary to exit the ramp from the main road, both vehicles are basically changing lanes about 1 km from the ramp, and the success rate of the selection of the Xiaopeng P7 is higher than that of the ideal ONE.

There were 5 opportunities to choose the ramp, the Xiaopeng P7 succeeded 2 times, and the ideal ONE only succeeded 1 time. Although the success rate is not high, these scenes are worth illustrating.

In the section of the Outer Ring Expressway to Shanghai-Jin Expressway, Xiaopeng P7 began to change lanes, choosing ramps, because the right side of the road conditions are complicated, P7 directly saw the seam needle, decisively changed lanes, and successfully entered the ramp.

It can be said to be extremely decisive, but it is also alarming.

The same section of the road, the ideal ONE began to choose the ramp, at about 800-100 meters from the ramp to issue a lane change instruction (after manual confirmation, there was a solid line lane change), this operation due to the sudden change of lanes in front of the car, was interrupted, so we reopened the pilot assist at a distance of about 350 meters, but there has been traffic on the right side, the navigation assist driver finally exited, declaring the failure to enter the ramp.

In the section of the Hujin Expressway to the Shenjiahu Expressway, the Xiaopeng P7 has not successfully entered two consecutive ramps.

First of all, the Xiaopeng P7 was ready to drive into the ramp, due to the oncoming car in the rear, the first time was not successful; after that, there was another operation to select the ramp, still not successful, the system will not exit, and there is no prompt to indicate that we missed the ramp.

(3) In the ramp

When driving on the ramp, both cars can automatically adjust the speed according to the speed limit in the ramp, and the passability is relatively strong, but there are special circumstances.

In the turning section of the Hujin Expressway to the Shenjiahu Expressway, the NGP of the Xiaopeng P7 has been downgraded, the downgrade has an audible prompt, and the NGP is restored less than 5 seconds later, guessing that the data of the high-definition map is lost.

Also in this section, the performance of the ideal ONE is a bit of a worry for the safety officers.

In this ramp, the leftmost lane is significantly narrower, and the ideal ONE, driving in this lane, makes the safety officer feel too close to the left guardrail, so it is taken over manually.

The Xiaopeng P7 prefers the middle lane in the ramp, which is more reasonable.

Part II Diversion Scheme:

XiaoPeng is like a "young guy", the ideal interpretation of "Daddy Car"

In this part, we mainly look at how the two cars choose lanes when driving normally at high speed, and whether they will change lanes when the front car is driving slowly.

In terms of lane change efficiency, because the ideal ONE needs to dial the steering wheel control key to manually confirm lane change, on the other hand, the environmental variables of high-speed vehicles are relatively large, especially for new users who are not accustomed to the system, they need to learn the cost.

In the lane change experience, Xiaopeng has detected the surrounding safety environment in advance when turning on the lights, determined that the lane change is both lights, and then the vehicle completes the entire lane change action, the whole process is very fast and decisive.

When changing lanes and overtaking, the acceleration experience is also relatively linear, and the experience is very good.

The ideal ONE is to detect the slow car in front of it and initiate the lighting action. Then, the voice prompt recommends changing lanes to the left, paying attention to the vehicles on the left. After the confirmation button is pressed artificially, the vehicle performs a lane change operation.

Overall, Xiaopeng and the ideal lane change experience is good. Xiaopeng P7 gives people a feeling of more decisive, lane change is also more positive, high efficiency, like a young guy driving; the ideal ONE of the enthusiasm for lane change is low, generally choose not to change lanes, the body feeling when changing lanes is more soothing, very in line with the positioning of the grandfather car.

However, there are also slot points.

For example, in the outer ring highway section, there have always been large cars in the right lane, and xiaopeng P7 did not choose to change lanes to the left, but just kept braking, and the reason for the braking operation was unknown.

Also on this section, the ideal ONE voice prompt recommends changing lanes to the left. After the artificial confirmation, the vehicle began to change lanes, but the lane change operation was withdrawn, and the reason for this is not clear. The key is that after exiting, the speed also drops suddenly, which can easily cause the rear car to rear-end.

Part III Emergency Response:

The success rate of the two vehicles coping with Cut in is high

In this section, we mainly look at how the two vehicles deal with sudden congestion and the appearance of unknown objects on the road.

In terms of emergency response, whether at a speed of 30 km/h or 60-80 km/h, the performance of the two vehicles is relatively qualified.

In the outer ring high-speed congestion section, Xiaopeng P7 left front is plugged, Xiaopeng has obvious brake reaction, the ideal ONE is also excellent performance, by three cars cut in continuously, there are obvious brake brakes, but not completely stopped to avoid, this is a bit of an old driver's taste.

In the smooth section of the Outer Ring Expressway, the speed can reach 60-80 kilometers per hour, the Xiaopeng P7 is in the middle lane, the sudden front car changes lanes and is jammed, the Xiaopeng reaction is a bit sluggish, but there is still a slight braking operation, indicating that the system senses this sudden Cut in.

The ideal ONE is also in this speed range, and the situation it encounters is that after the lane change is completed, it encounters a sudden lane change and congestion in the front car, it does not brake in time, the safety officer brakes, and the human takeover is taken over.

In this test, we also encountered some items in the lane in front of the Shenjiahu Expressway, and we didn't know what it was, and neither car carried out any identification or any emergency operation.

Part IV Human-Computer Interaction:

Xiaopeng is silky and smooth, ideal and decent

In terms of the way the navigation assistance system is opened, the Xiaopeng P7 and the ideal ONE are operated by the lever on the steering wheel.

There is also a difference between the two cars, in the steering wheel induction, the ideal ONE is grip force induction, Xiaopeng P7 is the torque sensor.

The point to be said here is that the Xiaopeng P7 will prompt the driver to turn the steering wheel with a sound every 30 seconds or so, and too frequent reminders will actually make people very impatient, of course, this is the Xiaopeng engineer for the safety of laws and regulations.

In terms of visual presentation of both systems, they are visual display on the dashboard and central control screen, modeling the environment, they can display 12 lanes in both directions, and with the blessing of HIGH-precision maps, they can identify and 3D model roads, road markings, road edges, bridges, buildings, and ice cream tubes.

In terms of visual presentation and interaction, Xiaopeng P7 is better than the ideal ONE, and it will be more delicate and smooth.

In terms of opening range, both systems need to be set in the car machine system navigation route, after setting, after entering the toll station, will take the lead in opening the LCC function, and then after leaving the ramp, into the main road, the LCC function will automatically switch to the entire interface of navigation assistance driving, and the visual presentation will also be uniformly switched.

Both systems will be prompted to exit and take over 300-400 meters before we enter the next toll booth.

In terms of takeover prompts, the Xiaopeng P7 will have voice prompts, and red steering wheel prompts will appear on two screens.

Navigation assisted driving is not "born to mature"
