On March 18, the tank brand officially launched its flagship model, the Tank 500, which has many highlights, such as the first 9AT longitudinal transmission developed by the Great Wall; the V6 engine rarely developed by the Great Wall; the luxury and off-road performance of the independent brand (non-load-bearing body; the timely four-wheel drive system of the central multi-slice clutch, with the standard rear axle mechanical differential lock) and the focus of our article: equipped with the HPilot 2.0 auxiliary driving system independently developed by TheLmed Zhixing.

In the previous two articles, we detailed Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE and BMW's automatic driving assistance system pro, from hardware configuration to function to actual performance, have made a judgment, so compared with the former, what kind of answer can traditional independent brands hand over on the road of intelligence? Is it really as stated on the Internet: independent brands have led the joint venture brands in terms of intelligence?

This article takes the HPilot 2.0 driver assistance system equipped with the Great Wall 500 as an example to see if the answer handed by the independent brand is enough to be amazing.

1. The development history of HPilot

Before officially introducing this system, let's briefly talk about the company, compared to other independent autonomous driving solution providers such as Mobileye and NVIDIA, the identity of Millima Zhixing is more unique, its predecessor is the intelligent driving forward department of Great Wall Motors, which was independent from Great Wall Motors in November 2019.

At present, the HPilot has been iterated through multiple versions, and HPilot 1.0 has been installed in five Great Wall models since May 2021, including Weipai Mocha, Tank 300 City Edition, Weipai Machido DHT, Weipai Latte DHT, and Haval Divine Beast.

On the hardware side, HPilot 1.0 is a perception system composed of 5 millimeter wave radars, 1 front-view lens module, 1 controller and high-definition map; on the functional side, HPilot 1.0 has advanced driving assistance capabilities in high-speed scenarios, which is based on HWA highway assistance system, NOH high-speed automatic pilot assistance driving system and other subsystems, and can realize common L2-level auxiliary driving capabilities such as ACC + automatic lane change in high-speed scenarios.

The intelligent driving system equipped with the tank 500 is the 2.0 version of the HPilot, compared with the 1.0 version, HPilot 2.0 has a stronger computing power, with more than 30 auxiliary driving functions, in addition, the "parking integration" driving and parking intelligent scene integration solution is also a major highlight. (The specific functions will be analyzed in detail later).

At the Ai DAY held on April 19, The Company released HPilot3.0, compared to the previous two versions, the biggest breakthrough in version 3.0 is to achieve urban pilot assistance (as far as the current industry is concerned, the penetration rate of high-speed pilot assistance is not high, and the city pilot assistance is even more rare).

At the hardware level, HPilot3.0 is equipped with an ultra-high computing chip with AI capability of 360T, cache 144M, and CPU computing capacity of 200K+ DMIPS; it is also equipped with 2 lidars, 12 Cameras, and 5 millimeter wave radars, which maximizes the safety redundancy of the entire set of assisted driver perception systems.

At the functional level, after the opening of the urban NOH, the vehicle can realize the functions of automatic lane change overtaking, traffic light recognition and control, complex intersection traffic, unprotected left and right turning in the urban environment, etc., and at the same time, it can also cope with complex urban traffic scenarios such as vehicle close entry, vehicle obstruction, intersection, and roundabout tunnel overpass.

According to the plan of The Wisdom Walk, HPilot 3.5 will be achieved in Q2 2022 and HPilot 4.0 in 2023.

After a brief understanding of the development of HPilot, we will focus on the protagonist of this article, HPilot 2.0.

2. HPilot 2.0 - hardware sensor

The hardware configuration determines the perception ability of the automatic driving system, and the perception ability determines the upper limit of the system, so every time we talk about this kind of assisted driving system, we always like to use the hardware sensor to discuss it first.

However, it is a little regrettable that we have looked for a lot of information, and we have not found the type and number of sensors used in HPilot 2.0, and finally found such a picture on the official website of The Wisdom Of the End, as follows:

Based on this figure, in fact, we can also infer the type of sensor, but the number of sensors may have a slight deviation: the front-view camera at the upper end of the windshield, the long-range millimeter-wave radar in the middle of the front, the ultrasonic radar and camera all around the body, as for the processor, the high probability is the use of the Moblieye EyeQ4 chip.

The parameters of this chip we introduced when talking about BMW's driver assistance system pro, which is directly quoted here: Moblieye EyeQ4 uses a 28nm process. Using 5 core processors (4 MIPSi-class cores and 1 MIPSm-class core), 6 VMP chips, 2 MPC cores and 2 PMA cores, the floating-point operation per second reaches 2.5TOPS and the power consumption is 3w.

It is based on these sensors that HPilot 2.0's multi-source heterogeneous sensor solution is constituted.

From the objective point of view of the industry, although this set of hardware sensors is in line with the mainstream, it is not so brilliant, especially under the premise that lidar has begun to be widely used on the car (such as Xiaopeng P5, Weilai ET7, Ideal L9, WM M7... ), this hardware configuration is even more unremarkable.

Of course, we can not judge the quality of a system from a single dimension, if we are separated from objective factors such as product positioning and cost, then the conclusions drawn are extremely irresponsible.

3. HPilot 2.0 - Function

At present, the automatic driving assistance system of mainstream car companies can basically achieve functions such as ACC adaptive cruise and lane departure assistance.

A higher level, it is necessary to compete in high-speed pilot assistance, congestion assist TJP, automatic lane change of lights and other functions, fortunately, HPilot 2.0 also has the above more difficult functions.

Specifically, after opening HPilot 2.0, tank 500 can not only complete the adaptive follow-up on the highway, realize automatic control of the speed and the distance between the vehicle in front, but also achieve capabilities such as automatic lane change: in the case of clear high-speed lane lines and the vehicle is driving in the middle of the lane, only need to dial the turn signal lever, the vehicle can automatically complete the lane change action when confirming safety.

After opening the NOH high-speed pilot assistance, it can automatically get on and off the ramp in the high-speed and urban expressways, automatically follow the navigation route throughout the whole process, and intelligently control the speed and distance in front of the vehicle according to the road speed limit and road shape.

In addition, as stated in the first paragraph, the "parking integration" driving and parking intelligent scene integration solution is also one of the keys to HPilot 2.0.

Its parking solution includes fully automatic and remote parking, as well as a follow-up function. Through the optimization of forward-looking perception and other upgrading of the perceptual level, it is possible to see a God perspective composition when parking.

When automatic parking, the working conditions are less than 30km/h, the size of the side parking space is greater than the length of the body 0.8m, the vertical parking space size is greater than the width of the body 1m, and then press the button, the system will calculate the best parking trajectory, and provide the driver with parking tips through the display or voice; and the memory route length planning of the memory parking function is greater than 1km, and there are more than 50 routes.

At present, the main engine factories that do a better job in automatic parking are Xiaopeng, Changan APA, and third-party technology companies are led by Baidu, because they have not actually experienced this parking system for the time being, and there is a lack of relevant evaluation on the Internet, so its actual performance How we first press the table for the time being.

4. HPilot 2.0 horizontal comparison with Xiaopeng XPILOT 3.0

When analyzing volkswagen IQ.DRIVE and BMW driver assistance system Pro earlier, we have already conducted a lot of horizontal evaluations of the system, from sensors to functions, so here, we will no longer make extensive comparisons, only choose a more typical brand to do horizontal evaluation, that is, Xiaopeng.

Why choose Xiaopeng? Because on the one hand, the industry has been circulating "Wei Hard Peng Soft" saying, that is, Wei Lai Qiang in hardware, Xiao Peng qiang in software, on the other hand, Xiao Peng's degree of intelligence is also widely praised by consumers, HPilot 2.0 with which to do horizontal evaluation, in fact, also has a model.

Old rules, first from the hardware side, Xiaopeng P7's XPILOT 3.0 is equipped with 10 high-perception cameras, 5 millimeter wave radar, 12 ultrasonic radars, 4 surround view cameras, this hardware configuration is currently at the leading level, but also ahead of HPilot 2.0.

On the chip, the NVIDIA Xavier chip selected by Xiaopeng P7 has a computing power of 30 TOPS performance is between WEIO ES6 and Tesla Model 3, ahead of MobileyeQ4.

In the main functional end, Xiaopeng XPILOT 3.0 mainly has three major functions, namely NGP on the high-speed loop, super ACC function in congested road conditions, and automatic parking and mobile parking in memory parking.

From a functional point of view, this system is more similar to HPilot 2.0, but under the subdivision, Xiaopeng's system can also have a more eye-catching performance, such as its voice lane change function, in the NGP navigation assisted driving state, just wake up "small P" and then say "help me to change lanes to the left / right", the system will automatically help you change lanes under the premise of safe road conditions, and the function only supports the main driver's voice wake-up after the directional recognition of the main driver's lane change instructions, will not be misoperated by other passengers' voices. There are certain considerations in the safety settings.

Another example is its memory parking lot mobile parking, when using, the user takes the parking lot as the starting point, clicks to learn the route, the vehicle runs normally and manually parks into the parking space, and completes the parking route learning. After that, the vehicle will activate the memory parking when it reaches the marked starting point of the parking lot, and the vehicle will drive along the set route, and during the journey, the vehicle can automatically turn, meet the car, detour, avoid pedestrians and other vehicles. None of this is available in HPilot 2.0.

Finally, we would like to give the Xiaopeng P7 system a good review, because it is one of the few systems that need to be learned before opening NGP, which allows drivers to have a clearer understanding of the capability boundaries of this function. You know, so far there have been many autonomous driving accidents, all because of the driver's abuse of the function.

As an autonomous driving system supplier independent of the main engine factory, the version has been iterated many times in less than 2 years, showing the speed that a technology company should have in the era of intelligence, and at the same time, on the functional side, compared with the system independently developed by other OEMs, the terminal wisdom is also more radical (especially the HPilot 3.0 version).
