One last push in 2021! Microsoft Win11 Dev Preview 22523 released

IT House has learned that Microsoft said that this version update will be available on ARM64 computers. This will be Microsoft's last push release during the holidays. See you in 2022!

Here's what's new for Windows 11 Build 22523

Changes and improvements

Microsoft has rolled out snapshot groups in ALT+TAB and task views, just like the apps you open with hovering over the taskbar, where you can see them, for all insiders in the Dev channel.

When File Explorer goes to the native, the Add Media Server and (if appropriate) Remove Media Server options are now available when clicking on the command bar's "...".

As part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts, introduce more settings from the Control Panel into the Settings app.

The Programs and Features link in Control Panel now leads to the Settings > Applications > installed applications. (In other words, a page that links to uninstall or change a program on your computer.) )

Microsoft is moving uninstall updates (for cumulative updates, etc.) from Control Panel to a new page in Settings, settings > Windows Update > update history.

repair

[Taskbar]

Fixed an issue related to text input initialization that could cause the shell (for example, Start Menu and Search) to become unresponsive on ARM64 PCs.

Battery icon tooltips no longer unexpectedly display percentages above 100.

When there are a large number of open applications, the application icon no longer overlaps with the date and time on the secondary display.

[File Explorer]

Some work was done to resolve an issue where when renaming a OneDrive file using F2, sometimes pressing Enter would cause the keyboard to lose focus.

[Spotlight Collection]

With Spotlight Collection enabled, your first image (after Whitehaven Beach) should now arrive faster.

Added an icon to the context menu entry for the Spotlight collection.

[Input]

Improves the reliability of invoking voice input.

Fixed an issue where the boundaries of Microsoft's text input experience (voice input, emoji panel, etc.) were not drawn correctly when contrast themes were enabled.

Alleviates intermittent crashes of the Pen Menu process if it is started and then shuts down immediately before starting.

[Widget]

Microsoft fixed an issue that caused links to not open properly when opening the widget panel using hovering.

[Settings]

When the settings window becomes smaller, the settings are no longer truncated on one side of the window.

Settings no longer crashes sporadically when the combo box is opened, which affects certain settings, such as the ability to customize click actions for pen settings.

Addresses an issue where the Add Device option in Bluetooth and devices quietly crashes when trying to connect a new Bluetooth device.

Added keywords to make voice access control appear in settings search results.

[Other]

Fixed a bugcheck issue that caused ARM64 PCs to have reference memory management errors in previous releases.

Fixed an issue that caused DWM to crash when trying to use certain applications, causing the screen to flicker repeatedly.

Mitigated an issue that caused some applications to hang when Narrator Narrator is running.

Some missing information was added when examining the details in the narratorquickstart.exe property.

Addresses an issue where Narrator Narrator does not respond to UIA events, such as notifications, live canvases, or text events.

Note: Some fixes in insider Preview builds from active development branches mentioned here may go into the service update for the Windows 11 release release that is generally available on October 5.

Known issues

[General]

You may not be able to sign in to some applications, such as Feedback Hub. Restarting your PC should correct this problem.

Microsoft is investigating reports of some insiders seeing failed driver and firmware updates in recent builds with errors 0x8007012a.

[Start]

In some cases, when you use search from Start or the taskbar, you may not be able to enter text. If you encounter this problem, press WIN + R on your keyboard to start the Run dialog box, and then close it.

When you switch input methods, the taskbar sometimes flashes.

The network icon sometimes disappears in the taskbar, and it should be there. If you encounter this situation, try using Task Manager to restart the explorer .exe.

If you have multiple monitors connected to your PC and right-click the date and time on the taskbar of your primary monitor, it will crash the explorer .exe.

[Search]

After you tap the search icon on the taskbar, the search panel may not open. If this happens, restart the Windows Explorer process and open the search panel again.

When you view a list of available Wi-Fi networks, the signal strength metric does not reflect the correct signal strength.

Settings may crash when you enter the System > show > HDR.

There is a blank entry under Bluetooth and Devices.

[Spotlight Collection]

If you use a Spotlight collection, the current image is not currently migrated at upgrade time, which may result in a black desktop background after upgrading to this version. This issue should be resolved in the next release.

Changing the arrangement of the taskbar causes the widget buttons to disappear from the taskbar.

When hovering the entry point over the secondary display, the widget may not have the correct resolution.

The widget panel may be temporarily blank.

When there are multiple monitors, the widget content on the taskbar may not be synchronized between displays.

With the taskbar left-aligned, information such as temperature is not displayed. This will be fixed in a future update.

[Voice Access Control]

Some text authoring commands, such as Select That or Delete That, may not work as expected in Windows applications.

Some punctuation marks and symbols are not accurately recognized, such as the @ symbol.
