Musk threatened to sue Microsoft, saying it "illegally used Twitter data for AI training."

IT House News on April 20, Microsoft announced that it would stop supporting Twitter on its smart advertising platform, which caused dissatisfaction with Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Musk has threatened to sue Microsoft, accusing Microsoft of illegally using Twitter's data to train its artificial intelligence programs, and demanding compensation.

Microsoft quietly announced the decision, but did not say why. However, there are reports that Twitter wants to charge exorbitant fees to third-party apps to access Twitter's application programming interface (API), a tool that allows third-party apps to interact with social media services. Twitter requested fees ranging from $42,000 to $210,000 per month (IT House Note: currently about 289,000 yuan to 1.445 million yuan).

Microsoft seems reluctant to pay this fee, so it decided to stop providing Twitter support on its smart advertising platform after April 25. This means that Microsoft's advertisers will not be able to access their Twitter accounts or create and publish Tweets through the Smart Ads platform.

Musk tweeted: "They (Microsoft) illegally use Twitter's data for training. It's time to sue them. Musk has provided no evidence to support his allegations, although some AI programs, such as ChatGPT, do use publicly available internet data, such as Wikipedia articles, for training.

Musk's comments came as another social media platform, Reddit, announced plans to charge API visitors on the grounds that data generated by Reddit users is used to train AI models.

There are other contradictions between Musk and Microsoft. Microsoft has become a major partner in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. While Musk was once one of the founders of OpenAI, he has since criticized the San Francisco-based lab as a "closed-source, maximum-profit company that is effectively controlled by Microsoft."

At the same time, he also criticized ChatGPT for spreading misinformation, and Musk said he plans to use his own artificial intelligence chatbot program, TruthGPT, to fight OpenAI and Microsoft.
