On April 3, 2022, BYD Automobile announced that it will officially stop the production of fuel vehicles and stop selling fuel vehicles from March this year. As soon as the news came out, it immediately attracted the attention of the global automotive industry. The reason is very simple, many traditional car companies, such as Volvo, Volkswagen, Honda, etc., although announced plans to stop production of fuel vehicles, it is only a plan. However, BYD realized this plan several years in advance, and this "blow" undoubtedly hit the heart. So, what kind of underpinnings is behind BYD's choice?

The forward concept has finally landed
As early as the 2004 Beijing Auto Show, BYD brought a pure electric concept car called ET; After officially entering the automobile market, at the off-line ceremony of the BYD F6 in 2007, Wang Chuanfu said that "the future of the world is hybrid and electric vehicles, not gasoline vehicles"; Subsequently, BYD brought the first generation of DM model F3DM in 2009, thus laying the prototype of today's DM-i super hybrid. Looking back now, BYD's forward-looking prediction at that time was very correct.
Although today, whether it is Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other international car companies or SAIC, Geely, Great Wall and other Chinese car companies, have entered the new energy vehicle market to fight, but looking around the development of domestic and foreign car companies, the best development in the field of new energy vehicles is still holding many patents, in the new energy technology of BYD. Not only will the blade battery be launched in 2020, which will greatly reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion and deflagration of electric vehicles, but also launch a number of new energy models based on DM-i super hybrid and e platform 3.0 in 2021, and their excellent performance has also laid the foundation for BYD to stop production and sale of fuel vehicles.
Recognized by the market
In the development of new energy vehicles, such suggestions as "discontinued fuel vehicles" often appear in various meetings, and most traditional brands set the suspension of pure fuel vehicles as the goal of 2025 or even 2030. For example, Changan Automobile has announced that it will stop selling traditional energy vehicles in 2025, and Volvo has announced that it will fully electrify by 2030.
However, bydir directly announced that it is the first to stop production of pure fuel vehicles at present, and the lack of courage to stop pure fuel vehicles for other brands is mainly because the sales volume of its new energy (including plug-and-mix) is not enough to support sales demand.
As a leader in new energy, BYD subverted the market with practical actions, and its sales in January reached 93,263 vehicles, ranking first in the global new energy sales list; In February, with sales of 90,268 vehicles, it surpassed SAIC Volkswagen to become the second in the domestic list. In the just-concluded March, BYD's sales exceeded the 100,000 mark, reaching a record high with a year-on-year increase of 160.9%, whether based on domestic or global, in the sales of new energy vehicles are proud.
At the same time, it can also be seen from the above table that the current proportion of fuel vehicles in BYD as a whole is almost negligible, and it is zero in March, so it is logical to stop production of fuel vehicles. After the suspension of fuel vehicles, BYD can achieve production capacity concessions, through targeted production structure adjustment, further increase the production capacity of new energy vehicles, and make sales performance go to a higher level.
In the sales of new energy vehicles, we also noticed that the sales volume of EV and DM every month is a situation of five to five, and such a balanced sales distribution is also related to the strategy of "two legs, walking in tandem" that BYD has always implemented.
In terms of pure electric, BYD has always adhered to the independent development and production of the whole industry chain, and created the e platform and continuous iteration, the latest e platform 3.0 is the use of the world's first eight-in-one electric powertrain, while fully equipped with blade batteries and wide temperature range high efficiency electric pump, its first product Dolphin, in the test of a number of professional media, the performance of the three electrics are better than similar products, especially in the winter test, making it a "darling" that is difficult to find in the EV market.
In terms of DM, BYD DM-i Super Hybrid has led the DM product line all the way to the top since its release last year and gradually began its product layout. To know that in 2020, BYD DM models accounted for only 15% of the overall sales of new energy, and at the beginning of 2022, this figure has reached 50%, an increase of nearly 800% year-on-year, of which Qin PLUS, Song PLUS, the first to match the model, are in their respective market segments on the new energy list, of which Song PLUS is to help the Song family become a big brother in domestic SUV sales in February, it is under the strong drive of DM-i, Let the DM and EV legs achieve "walking together".
In general, IND in 2021, under the influence of many undesirable factors such as the epidemic and raw material price increases and lack of cores, still handed over a report card of high sales growth of new energy vehicles, which is also its official announcement of the suspension of fuel vehicles and the full turn to new energy vehicles. Therefore, this world's first is naturally included in BYD's pocket.
Once again, leading the way
Nowadays, carbon peaking, carbon neutrality has been a global consensus, countries have also issued fuel vehicle ban timetable, although the mainland has not yet proposed a specific fuel vehicle suspension timetable, but has been committed to achieving carbon neutrality goals, and set a lot of transition goals for this, for example, Hainan Province took the lead in formulating the goal of stopping the sale of fuel vehicles in 2030. This coincides with BYD's vision of creating a zero-emission ecological closed loop.
Perhaps ten years ago, some people would laugh at such BYD, but now, fossil fuels are in short supply, domestic oil prices have ushered in a record high, and the dependence on nickel and cobalt has also become a stumbling block for the development of new energy vehicles, so BYD advocates science and technology as a driving force and adheres to the development concept of "innovation" and "green", which has become the best way to solve the development dilemma of the new era.
Therefore, from a long-term point of view, the suspension of production and sale of fuel vehicles, although BYD is a small step towards its own vision, it may promote a big step in accelerating the transformation of new energy vehicles in the world.
Of course, BYD's fuel vehicle users do not have to worry. Although the production and sale of the vehicle is suspended, BYD will continue to produce and supply fuel vehicle parts and provide complete after-sales guarantee services to ensure the normal use of consumer fuel vehicle products throughout the life cycle, and in this regard, BYD is also responsible.
