In April, the wholesale sales of manufacturers were 946,000 units, down 43.0% year-on-year and 47.8% month-on-month, and the performance of some car companies was significantly differentiated due to production constraints. Wholesale sales of manufacturers in January-April reached 6.386 million units, a year-on-year growth rate that increased by 8.3% from January to March to a decrease of 4.5%.

Among the major car companies, except for BYD, other car companies have experienced a decline in production and sales. Among them, SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM's sales fell by more than 50% in April.

In April, 480,000 self-owned brand retail units were sold, down 19% year-on-year and 37% month-on-month. BYD's sales of new energy vehicles reached 105,000 units in April, an increase of 134.3% year-on-year, continuing to top the sales list; in addition, the performance of zero-running cars and Nezha automobiles increased steadily, with 9,087 and 8,813 deliveries in April, respectively, of which zero-run jumped to the first place in the delivery volume of new car-making forces for the first time.

According to the data, the wholesale sales of new energy passenger cars in April were 280,000 units, an increase of 50.1% year-on-year and a decrease of 38.5% month-on-month. From January to April, the wholesale number of new energy passenger cars was 1.469 million units, an increase of 119.0% year-on-year. Retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 282,000 units in April, up 78.4% year-on-year and down 36.5% month-on-month, different from the trend in April of the calendar year. From January to April, domestic retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 1.352 million units, up 128.4% year-on-year.

The domestic retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles in April was 27.1%, an increase of 17.3 percentage points from the penetration rate of 9.8% in April 2021. In April, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in independent brands was 54.4%, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in luxury vehicles was 5.5%, while the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in mainstream joint venture brands was only 3.7%.
