BYD stopped production of fuel vehicles, fully embraced new energy, how to choose the four major sequences?

At 8 p.m. on April 3, BYD issued a note on the suspension of fuel vehicles. In the future, the automobile sector will only have pure electric and plug-in hybrid two power forms, and then BYD synchronously announced the sales in March, and the sales of fuel vehicles have actually been cleared, which shows that BYD has been preparing for this day for a long time.

Corresponding to the discontinued fuel vehicles, BYD is hot in the field of new energy, with sales exceeding 100,000 in March, marking a new milestone. Most of the friends who consulted to buy a car were asking BYD. Then Kung Fu Auto found that everyone really lacked understanding of the new energy sequence, and they wanted to buy it but didn't know how to choose.

Just through our recently launched Kung Fu Car Recommendation column, Kung Fu Auto combined its own experience over the years to talk to you about the hybrid and electric vehicle layout of major car companies.

Although the production of fuel vehicles, but some of BYD's models inevitably have the shadow of the former fuel platform, what is the order of its existing models? Let the kung fu car take everyone to see it together.

(1) The "legacy" of the pre-fuel era

As we all know, BYD began to bet on new energy early on, and launched the first hybrid model F3 DM in 2008, but it did not start to really take off until after 2020. Push forward five years, BYD's main sales model is still a pure fuel vehicle, and the market performance and reputation are not good, and the models in this period are naturally not so good.

Most of these models have been discontinued in recent years, but many have been retained, "upgraded" dm-i system, continue to shine in the market, more typical is song pro DM-i and Song Max DM-i.

At that time, they were actually "walking volume" models, born around 2017, and the opponents were Haval H6 and Trumpchi GS4 models, but the result was basic competition. So most of the time, they choose to reduce prices to survive, with a slightly lower positioning and a lower price, to maintain market sales.

In the case of SongMax, for example, its price is 79,900 and the automatic is 89,900. It can have a 7-seater real MPV model with a 1.5T engine, which is also a prominent cost performance at that time. But you get what you pay for, the "bottom" of this car is certainly not so good, including the overall design and materials, in fact, it is not so good.

Fast forward, in March this year, BYD launched a new model Song Max DM-i, playing the slogan of fuel MPV disruptor, and the price became 145,800. A hybrid MPV of less than 150,000, with a fuel consumption of only more than 4L, can also provide a 7-seat experience, which many media call the benchmark of 150,000-level family cars.

But we should be clear that the original 1.5T engine + gearbox, replaced by a 1.5L hybrid engine + power battery + DM-i hybrid system, the price directly rose by more than 50,000 (this is not counting the previous fuel vehicle has a lot of discounts), this is worth it, you have to judge for yourself.

(2) Cost-effective former "flagship"

The second part of BYD's model sequence is the previous flagship model. Mainly two models, BYD Tang and Song PLUS. The former was BYD's well-deserved flagship that year, and the latter was BYD's last blockbuster fuel vehicle before it completely fell into electrification.

They have a common feature, that is, although they also come from the fuel era, the mechanical quality, configuration and materials of the car itself are very outstanding.

Tang needless to say, it is an important model of BYD's early "5 4 2" strategy, the first domestic car to accelerate into 5 seconds, and the price of hybrid at that time was also sold for more than 300,000. And it's a really authentic model that's been burned. Even if it was sold at this price five or six years ago, it is still a domestic car, and many people have paid for it, indicating that its long board is really long. BYD has indeed poured a lot of effort into it, which can be regarded as the peak of BYD's fuel era.

The Song PLUS is actually not bad, because the compact SUV has always been the top priority of domestic cars before, and haval H6, Boyue, CS75 PLUS are all in this level. Previously, BYD's latest Snap Cloud 1.5T engine and 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission were also used in this car, representing the strongest technology of BYD in the field of fuel vehicles at that point in September 2020.

And these two cars have another feature, that is, they are BYD's first models equipped with DM-i system, which was really close to the "sticker cost" pricing at that time.

Even after the price increase this year, the price of the current Tang DM-i is from 195,800 yuan, and the Song PLUS DM-i is from 152,800 yuan, which is still full of cost performance. After all, from the perspective of size, they have reached the B+ and A+ levels respectively.

(3) Key models in the era of electrification

Starting in 2020, BYD has begun to prepare for full electrification, so some of its new models will no longer launch fuel versions. This means that their platform is only compatible with hybrid and pure electric, and this batch of models is more advanced in terms of design concept, which is more typical of Qin PLUS and Han.

First of all, from the design, the Han generation model has gone up to a level, the latest "Longyan" is very eye-catching, and the overall sense of technology and grade is very prominent. When BYD Han was on the market at that time, many people praised that it was beautiful and did not look like a domestic car. It sounds weird, but it's a certain degree of affirmation.

Secondly, in terms of technology, they have also been at the forefront. For example, Han is the earliest BYD model equipped with a "blade battery", and it has also been greatly improved in driving tuning compared to BYD's previous models. Qin PLUS DM-i is BYD's first model equipped with DM-i system, which shows the importance it attaches.

Qin PLUS is very much like Han's "scaled-down" version, inheriting part of the design language, which makes it not lose at the level of A-class scooters, at least in terms of appearance. And it is the first hybrid A-class car that will be extremely cost-effective, and in the case of a large battery that can be green, it is 20,000-30,000 cheaper than the Japanese hybrid sedan with a smaller size of the same level, which is indeed unsolvable. Even after the price increase this year, its value for money is still sufficient.

But we also have to pay attention to BYD's careful thinking, not long ago Han DM-i opened pre-sale, the price became 216,800 yuan. There is no "guaranteed bottom" green card version of more than 50km, and the start is a pure electric endurance of 121km, but it is still much more expensive than Tang DM-i. You should know that Tang as an SUV belongs to the B+ level, which is wider than the width of Han, and the length is only a little shorter, so it is reasonable to say that the positioning should be higher.

Of course, the cost performance of Han EV is still very high, after all, its price will be finalized in 2020. Like destroyer 05, it is another routine, changing the shell, changing the name and then increasing the price.

This batch of models is naturally not bad in technology, but some models have quietly changed in price, which is different from the earliest DM-i "three arrows" time, and everyone should pay attention to screening.

(4) e-platform 3.0 meritorious service

The cars mentioned above are hybrid and electric together, which is also a unique feature of BYD, even if it is fully electrified, plug-in hybrid models will still occupy an important position in its system.

So does BYD have a pure electric platform model? In fact, there are also some, and it is quite well done. That's the recently listed Dolphin, the Meta PLUS, and the upcoming seals.

First of all, Kung Fu Auto has more consumers around to consult dolphin this car than all other models, and even more people than xuanyi, hongguang MINI EV, model Y and other models. To some extent, it is because of two points, one is that everyone is very interested in this car, and the other is that everyone does not know enough about this car.

The several types of models mentioned by Dolphin are obviously different, which can be seen first from the design. Its body size is 4070 *1770 *1570mm, but the wheelbase reaches a staggering 2700mm, which is impossible to make with fuel or hybrid platforms. This gives it a distinct feature, looking like a cute A0-class car, sitting in it but finding no hole in the sky. It has the practicality of a large car, and there is a good car to drive, easy to park, and energy-saving.

The new car integrates the power battery into the chassis, while at the same time realizing the full range of the entire electric drive system, which allows it to maximize the space left for passengers. At the same time, it is also equipped with "black technology" such as heat pump air conditioning to ensure that the winter endurance will not be greatly reduced. And there are more advanced electrification platforms, more responsive car and machine systems.

In terms of design concept, Dolphin and Meta PLUS are even more advanced than Han EV. Of course, the price is not low, and a car like Dolphin is also going to sell for 102,800 yuan, which is unimaginable in the past BYD.

But looking at the current electric vehicle market, their opponents are actually not many. Compared with the Tang DM-i and Song PLUS DM-i models, maybe the little dolphin and the yuan PLUS are more profitable.

(5) Kung Fu shooting

Now BYD is too hot, the sales of new energy models in March has exceeded 100,000 vehicles, and the average cycle of waiting for the car cycle has been 3 months, which shows that consumers trust it. But it is indeed a "four-generation" car company, that is, the four parts we mentioned earlier, and the source of technology belongs to different eras.

Of course, we are not saying that the new platform is good, the old platform is bad, and ultimately it depends on the cost performance. After all, we are buying a large piece of household transportation, not a simple technology product. For example, Song PLUS DM-i and Tang DM-i, Kung Fu Cars feel that their cost performance is very good, without considering the positioning difference, it is more cost-effective than the newly listed Han DM-i.
