Will the price of new energy credits dive sharply in 2022?

With the implementation of the double point assessment in recent years, many new energy vehicle companies have made a lot of money. Especially in the new energy vehicle year of 2021, many new car-making forces whose sales scale is not too high have survived by selling new energy points.

New energy vehicle companies have relied on points to "make a lot of money"

According to the data, in 2020, Tesla made $1.58 billion by selling carbon credits alone, while Tesla's net profit that year was only $720 million. By 2021, Tesla would have made $1.465 billion by selling points. Li Bin, chairman of WEILAI Automobile, said that in the third quarter of 2021, WEILAI new energy credits had 200,000 points, and the profit was 517 million yuan. The ideal financial report for the third quarter of 2021 shows that the sale of 70,000 new energy credits has obtained 200 million yuan in revenue.

The points that everyone trades in the market are calculated according to the double point balance of each car company in the previous year.

Will the price of new energy credits dive sharply in 2022?

The so-called "double integral" refers to the average fuel consumption integral (CAFC integral) and the new energy integral (NEV integral).

The double integral calculation method is more complicated, in simple terms, in the indicator of "fuel consumption integral", if the fuel consumption of the fuel vehicle produced by the car company is higher than the corresponding fuel consumption standard, a negative integral will be generated, and the fuel consumption will be less than the standard, resulting in a positive integral.

In the "new energy credit", the number of new energy passenger cars produced by the enterprise exceeds the standard stipulated by the government, the more new energy vehicle credits the enterprise can obtain, and if it does not meet the corresponding standards, there will be negative points.

According to the regulations, if the car company does not meet the requirements for positive points, it will be subject to penalties such as suspending the declaration of high-fuel consumption products and suspending the production of high-fuel consumption products.

For enterprises that do not meet the standard of double integrals, in addition to the positive points of fuel and new energy generated by the enterprise, they can also purchase positive credits of new energy of other enterprises.

As a result, many new energy vehicle companies can obtain "large" revenues only by giving one to other car companies.

Why did the points dive so much?

However, the market for new energy credits in 2022 is not so "hot". Recently, Dong Yudong, CEO of Great Wall Motor's Euler brand, said: "The price of a single integral in 2021 is about 2500 yuan, but with 2021, the entire new energy vehicle market has grown by 160%. The points trading price has been reduced to 500-800 yuan in early 2022. ”

In less than half a year, why did the price of new energy credits dive on such a large scale? The answer is simple, oversupply.

In the "double points" report card of 138 Chinese passenger car companies in 2020, the negative points of fuel consumption were 6.66 million points, and the positive points of new energy were 3.28 million points. There is still a gap of -3.38 million points in the "double integral", and the points trading market has appeared a hot scene.

Will the price of new energy credits dive sharply in 2022?

In 2021, the new energy vehicle market ushered in a big outbreak, according to the data of the Association of Passenger Vehicles, in 2021, the domestic retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 2.989 million units, an increase of 169.1% year-on-year. In 2021, the number of new energy credits reached 8.43 million points, an increase of 3.01 million points from 5.42 million points in 2020. The total production of automobiles in 2021 will not change much compared with 2020, and the fuel points will be reduced accordingly, which also makes the original "new energy credits" that are difficult to find become less "tight".

However, this year's double point trading market has not yet been fully opened, and the current price is also stuck in the inquiry stage between different car companies. Xu Hai, head of the market of a new energy vehicle company, introduced that "the overall double integral data has been clarified, and the actual integral transaction price should not change much."
