The old man in Quebec, Canada, killed his boss and colleagues with an axe, and the court said he did not regret it

Two years ago, a Quebec man killed a man in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district and another in Notre-Dame-de-Grace, who pleaded guilty to both homicides in a Montreal court on Thursday. He said at a previous trial: "I am 61 years old and I am sober. I hacked both of them to death with an axe. He said he had been plotting the killing for 10 years.

Claude Charbonneau, 62, reportedly appeared before Quebec High Court Judge Hélène Di Salvo to plead guilty to second-degree murder against Pierre Phaneuf, 68, and first-degree murder to 80-year-old Theodros Debeyiotis.

According to a statement of fact read out by Charbonneau's lawyer in court records, he killed Phaneuf with an axe in his apartment in Ahuntsic-Cartierville on August 4, 2020. He then stole all the money in Phaneuf's pocket and put his phone in a bowl filled with water. He also locked the door to His peneuf apartment and stole his car.

Phaneuf lived alone and no one reported him missing.

The day after the killing, Charbonneau reappeared in an apartment building at Benny Ave. His boss, Theodros Debeyiotis, runs a property management company with offices there. He planned to kill his boss that day, but didn't have a chance to do it. A surveillance video shows how he changed the license plate of a stolen car while waiting for the killing.

He slept in Pheaneuf's car that night and returned the next day and used a password to enter Debeyiotis' office. Video footage shows him entering the building wearing a pair of gloves and holding an axe wrapped in cloth. When Debeyiotis arrived at the office at 9:42 a.m., he slashed his head and back with an axe.

A tenant who came to the office to pay rent 10 minutes later found the injured landlord. He was taken to hospital but died hours later.

Police quickly confirmed based on surveillance footage that Chabonneau was the one who killed Debeyiotis. Police then found Phaneuf's body.

Court documents show Charbonneau has been a gatekeeper for Debeyiotis' company for 20 years. He lives in the same apartment as Phaneuf. Phaneuf worked as a plumber at Debeyiotis.

Half a month after fleeing, Charbonneau was arrested in Trois-Rivières on Aug. 19 after a police officer noticed Phneuf's stolen car, with $800 in cash on him.

Speaking about the motive for the killing, Charbonneau said he killed Debeyiotis because he didn't like his boss, who he described as miserly and stingy, while he killed Phaneuf because of his "lack of respect for women". He confessed that he had been plotting murder for 10 years.

In court, Chabonneau also admitted that he planned to kill the boss's son, but escaped death because the boss's son was not in Montreal that day.

And Charbonneau has repeatedly reiterated that he doesn't regret it.
