They found that some of the children born at The Arriegne Hospital in Leddorp, the Netherlands, had the same father, Jos Beek, a doctor who had worked at the hospital. The next investigation was even more astonishing, and they found that a total of 21 children had the genes of this doctor. That is, between 1973 and 1998, he used his own sperm for fertilization without the knowledge of at least 21 mothers, "breeding" his offspring.
Fiom quickly contacted the company, and the company's head also expressed great shock. While expressing that Jos Beek's actions were "unforgivable," they were also actively cooperating with the investigation. That said, the doctor may have done more of the same thing without being discovered. Jos Beek died in 2019, so they can only appeal to people who suspect they may be the doctor's descendants to contact them, investigate further, and discover more secrets that are not known.
This is reportedly not the first such incident in the Netherlands.
In 2019, a DNA analysis found that a doctor named Jan Karbaat used his position to secretly use his sperm for fertilization while working at a clinic in Rotterdam. Investigators messaged a total of his 49 children, but presumably he used the means to give birth to at least 60. Similarly, the investigation has reached an impasse as the doctor has died.
Even more exaggerated is a man who calls himself Louis, the eldest brother who donated sperm like crazy and got more than 200 offspring. In an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian, he also said boldly: "If I only have 10 children in this way, it will be difficult for them to find me, the biological father." So what if I give birth to 100 or more? ”
As soon as these news broke, many infertile women in the Netherlands became afraid. However, the head of the Alriène Hospital said that in the 1970s and 1980s, these fertility technologies had just emerged, so there was no industry standard and the management was chaotic. Now that the technology has gradually matured and the corresponding laws and regulations have been improved, similar things will not happen again.
