Before the Europeans occupied Australia, there were actually more than 500 tribes in Australia, and the number of indigenous people reached as many as 750,000. Europeans came and hunted and bought and sold them, which led to a sharp decline in the indigenous population, and by the time of australia's founding in 1901, the indigenous population was only about 60,000.
