It is the main church of the Byzantine Empire, with a history of nearly 1,500 years, famous for its huge dome, the most glorious representative of Byzantine architecture, the central church of the Orthodox Church, and a monument to the heyday of the Byzantine Empire. Hagia Sophia is centralized, measuring 77.0 meters from east to west, 71.0 meters from north to south, and 54.8 meters high. It is the third church to be built by order of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in 532 AD and completed in 537 AD. After 1453 it was occupied by the Turks and converted into a mosque. It was converted into a museum in 1935 and registered as a World Heritage Site in 1985.
