The so-called cool comments, that is, harsh comments, are quite similar to the so-called "poisonous tongue" of the moment. The Analects of Zilu records that "Zigong asked, 'What is the present politician?' Zi Yue: 'Oh! The man who fights the flute, he is enough to count it. According to the general interpretation, "bucket" is used here as a metaphor for a small amount of instruments. In fact, one bucket is equal to ten liters, one bucket is one bucket and two liters, not necessarily small, but because the bucket is an instrument for measuring grain, and the bucket is a tool for collecting rice, so Lin Yutang believes that "bucket" is the meaning of "rice bucket". According to Lin Yutang's explanation, this sentence shows Confucius's great contempt for "today's politicians", which can be called a harsh and cool comment.

Confucius's cool comments were applied not only to the unscrupulous rulers, but also to the old acquaintances who did not obey the etiquette. Yuan Lang was an old acquaintance of Confucius, and in the Analects of the Constitution, Confucius commented on the proud Yuan Lang: "Young but not grandchild, long and unspeakable, old but not dead, is for thieves, with a staff to knock on his shin." Confucius criticized him and said that when he was a child, he was not humble and respected, he grew up and was indescribable, he was old and did not die, this was a prodigal son, and he also tapped the calf of the original soil with his cane. Although Cui Shu asserts in the Su Si Kao Letters that "the saints must not be like this", "so" reflects the real Confucius. It is only because Cui Shu "believes that the smell of the scriptures and Confucius and Mengmeng is too heavy, mixed with many preconceived preconceptions", which dissolves a living Confucius.

Confucius's cool comments were also applied to his own disciples. When dissuaded by Zilu, Confucius said, "Am I also a melon?" Can you tie without eating?
