Sleeping and snoring in children may be a sign of illness, which can reduce appearance and may also affect intelligence

Many people think that sleeping snoring is a very common thing, generally will not pay attention to, now some children will snore when they sleep, then parents will often think that the child sleeps too deeply caused, in fact, not, the child sleeps snoring, may be a sign of illness.

Sleeping and snoring in children may be a sign of illness, which can reduce appearance and may also affect intelligence

Liu Gang, chief physician of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Second People's Hospital of Hunan Province (Hunan Brain Hospital), introduced that adult snoring is mostly due to muscle relaxation and soft palate collapse, while children snore for a long time, the most common reason is adenoidal hypertrophy and tonsillar hypertrophy.

Adenoids, also called pharyngeal tonsils or proliferators, are located at the top of the nasopharynx and the posterior pharyngeal wall, are part of lymphoid tissue, and have an orange-like surface. Adenoid hypertrophy is due to repeated inflammatory stimuli, leading to pathological hyperplasia of the adenoids. The disease is common in children and often coexists with chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy.

Adenoids, like the tonsils, gradually grow up after birth with the increase of age, the body's immunity is enhanced, 2-6 years old is a period of vigorous growth, and gradually atrophy after the age of 10. During childhood, the body's immunity is lower than that of adults, more susceptible to acute tonsillitis, acute rhinitis (cold), influenza and other diseases, adenoids as lymphoid tissue, in this process, glandular tissue hypertrophication and hypertrophy, involved in the resistance to various bacterial viruses to the harm of children, if the above diseases recur, adenoids will also rapidly increase hypertrophy in the short term, blocked nostrils, further aggravate the symptoms of nasal congestion, resulting in limited nasal drainage, aggravating the symptoms of rhinitis sinusitis, nasal secretions will stimulate adenoidal progressive hyperplasia, A vicious circle of mutual causation is formed.

Excessive hypertrophy of the adenoids directly block the back end of the nostrils, resulting in nasal obstruction, open mouth breathing, especially obvious symptoms at night, there will be sleep snoring, lack of sleep and other symptoms, the child repeatedly turned over at night, when lying on his back, the above symptoms are the most serious, the most serious can appear apnea and so on.

The children's body is forced to open its mouth to breathe in order to breathe better, but for a long time, the air flow hits the hard palate, resulting in the child's jawbone becoming longer, the teeth not neat and protruding, the upper lip will also become thicker, and the osprey arch will become higher, which is medically called "adenoidal face". Such a child's face is difficult to return to its normal appearance, affecting the child's image.

Because children's development requires a lot of oxygen, and snoring will make children seriously hypoxia in sleep, directly leading to insufficient oxygen supply for brain development, causing a decrease in growth hormone secretion, not only affecting the child's height, but also the decline in physical resistance, mental atrophy, headache, dizziness, memory decline, unresponsiveness and other phenomena, will also affect the child's future intelligence.

Parents should pay attention to the fact that if they find that their children sleep at night and hold their breath, snor, and have apnea, they should go to the hospital's otolaryngology department in time. Early in the onset of adenoidal hypertrophy, drug therapy can cause it to retract. However, if the improvement in medication is not obvious, surgery is recommended.
