Mr. Liu, a 51-year-old from Yiyang, Hunan Province, was sent by his family for treatment, but ignored the doctor's inquiries and could only be answered by his family on his behalf.

It turned out that Mr. Liu had a quarrel with someone a month ago, suddenly had a headache after being emotionally agitated, the left hand and foot did not listen to the call, did not use force, fell to the ground, the family saw the situation and quickly sent Mr. Liu to the hospital, the doctor diagnosed as cerebral hemorrhage, after treatment out of danger of life, but the left limb was paralyzed, what was worse was that Mr. Liu lost his temper since he was sick, his mood was very negative, there was no requirement for future life and rehabilitation, he did not hold out hope, he often could not sleep, and the person who took care of him was very hard. The family brought Mr. Liu to the doctor, hoping to improve his bad mood and let him cooperate with rehabilitation treatment.

Dr. Ruan Lihua, a rehabilitation doctor assigned to the Fourth People's Hospital of Yiyang City to carry out counterpart support work in Hunan Provincial Brain Hospital (Hunan Second People's Hospital), explained after listening to the patient's family in detail: It is very common for patients to be depressed after stroke, which is medically called post-stroke depression.

The clinical manifestations of post-stroke depression mainly include the following two aspects:

First, there will be during illness

stroke

Features, such as physical disability, decreased language function, cognitive decline, etc.

Second, patients will be accompanied by depression characteristics, anxiety, low mood, upset, insomnia, etc., not interested in people and things around them, prone to anger, crying, suicidal tendencies and other manifestations.

The main reasons for depression after stroke are: patients are worried that they will not be able to take care of themselves in the future, their condition will not recover, they will bring burdens to their families, they cannot return to work, and they can live a normal life. Post-stroke depression can not only prolong the recovery time of neurological deficits, reduce quality of life, but also increase mortality.

In view of this, under the collaborative consultation of Dr. Li Renjiao of the Department of Psychiatry of Hunan Brain Hospital (Hunan Second People's Hospital), the condition was controlled through psychotherapy for Mr. Liu and antidepressant drugs were used. After the patient's mood and sleep improved, he actively underwent rehabilitation training, and the left limb activity improved significantly.

Dr. Li Renjiao of the Department of Psychiatry reminded the family that when a patient has depression, timely psychological counseling and drug treatment are needed, and early diagnosis and giving patients appropriate antidepressant treatment is an effective way to improve the quality of life and promote recovery.

Dr. Nguyen Ly Wah of the Rehabilitation Department stressed that rehabilitation training is very important for stroke patients and contributes to the recovery of damaged functions. Early rehabilitation prevents complications, minimizes functional disability, and improves prognosis. However, while we pay attention to physical dysfunction, we cannot ignore the spiritual support for patients, and good rehabilitation results are inseparable from the active participation of patients and families. Through the patients and their families to strengthen the understanding of the disease of depression after stroke, the hospital with both rehabilitation specialties and psychiatry specialties is selected for treatment, and the rehabilitation effect is achieved quickly and well.
