What is synovial chondromatosis?

Synovial chondroidosis is a benign neoplastic lesion of soft tissue cartilage metagenesis such as the joint synovium, which is relatively rare, and is mainly characterized by the formation of cartilage bodies in the joints, synovial membranes and tendon sheaths, which is not a tumor in the true sense, but is caused by abnormal metaplasia of synovial cells, mostly in the knee joint, and can also be seen in the hip, shoulder, elbow and other joints.

What are the clinical manifestations of synovial chondromatosis?

Clinically found that the knee synovial chondroma has a long course of disease, some patients in the early stage have no obvious symptoms, with the progression of the disease, the tumor body gradually forms, gradually appear knee joint pain, effusion, swelling, limited mobility and other symptoms of joint disorders, when the tumor body falls off to form a free body, it will cause knee joint incarceration during exercise and secondary wear of joint cartilage, obvious pain and joint colosis and other symptoms, and sometimes even on the surface of the body and lumps. The tumor will also wear away the cartilage with the movement of the knee joint, and the osteopathy of the joint will be destroyed at an advanced stage, so patients with obvious symptoms should be treated with surgery early.

How is it treated?

First of all, the diagnosis should be clear, excluding other malignant diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, osteochondritis decorganitis, etc., can be surgically removed from the lesion synovium and removed free body, joint atresia, at present, with the development of arthroscopic technology, in most cases can be arthroscopic surgery. After surgery, with functional exercises and health guidance, joint function is gradually restored.
