Chapter XXXIX

He who has one in the past, the heavens are clear.

The earth has one peace; God has one spirit.

The valley is profitable, and all things are born.

The king-in-waiting had to think that the sky was one and the right.

It is also said that the sky is incomparable, and it will be feared.

The land will be ruined.

God is insatiable and will rest in fear.

The valley is insatiable and will be exhausted.

All things are unsubstructed and will be destroyed.

The king-in-waiting is invincible and will be terrified.

Therefore, you are based on the lowly, and the high is based on the low.

It is the king who is waiting for himself to call himself a lonely, widowed, and not a valley.

Is this not a lowly evil? Isn't it?

Therefore, the reputation is not prestigious. Therefore, I do not want to be like jade, but like stone. Tao Te Ching

[Note] This chapter says that there is no action and no action, so as to show that useless use is the greatest use. If you want to be a ruler, you should rule without doing anything.

"One" is the essence of the Tao, the essence of the Tao, which is nothing and does nothing, specializing to one and not two. Wherever there is a law of action, it is not based on "one." "To" is the meaning of use. That is to say, all things in heaven and earth are based on the essence of the Tao. So the heavens get it, and the clear cover is on it. When the earth gets it, it carries it peacefully underneath. "God" is the human heart, and when man receives it, he becomes the spirit of all things.

The "valley" is the sea. The sea can accommodate hundreds of rivers when it gets it, so it is often full. When everything gets it, it will grow naturally. When the prince gets it, he can rule the world. "Positive" means long, which means the so-called "king long". Although the above examples are different, the inferences in which they are originally attributed to "one", so it is said that "one of its causes is also".

The article goes on to explain in turn that if the heavens do not receive this "one," they may fall apart and not be able to cover it perfectly. If the earth cannot get this "one", it may be earthquake and landslide and it is impossible to carry it peacefully underneath.

If people do not receive this "one," they may lose the vitality of life, and thus they will not be able to reproduce with their children and grandchildren. If all things in the world do not have this "one", they may become extinct from now on. If the king does not get this "one", he may be overthrown by the throne, and it is impossible to be safe in the noble position.

The meaning of Lao Tzu here is actually focused on emphasizing the sentence "The prince is invincible, and the noble will be afraid", and he wants the ruler to understand the use of inaction to govern the world.

A person who obeys the use of others and obeys others is called "lower" and "lowly". This is a metaphor for the Word. The Tao originally had no name, so everything in heaven and earth could be obtained and used. It's like people are in a low position. If the king is not allowed to do this, but is in a noble position, he may be subverted, does not this mean that "lower" and "lowly" are fundamental? Therefore, it is said that "you are based on the lowly, and the high is the basis."

Besides, the king called himself "lonely, widowed, and unworthy", and these three names are not exactly the names of the untouchables? (Grain, goodness; no grain, not goodness.) The king's intention, then, was to be lowly. Isn't it? The reason for this name is that the king wants to forget his noble name, to contemplate the dao, to gather the spirit, and to rule the world with uselessness.

[Commentary by Master Shan Shan] This saying is to do nothing and do nothing, and to use the useless use of the clear as a great use. Whoever desires kings should rule by doing nothing.

One, the body of the Tao. Its body is virtual and inactive, and the essence is unique. Everything that has been done is based on it. Take, use also. It means that all things in heaven and earth are based on the Tao body. Therefore the heavens are clear and clear. The earth is better than below. God refers to the human heart. It is said that man has it and is the spirit of all things.

Valley, that is, the sea also. The sea is able to accommodate hundreds of rivers, so it is long and profitable. All things come into being. The prince of hou was righteous in the world. Positive, Judas long, the so-called king long also. In this way, although its traces are different, and the push of its origin is one, so it is known that one of its causes is also.

Under it, it is revealed that the heavens will not be able to do this, and will be afraid of division and will not be able to cover the upper part. The earth cannot do this, and the fear of launching cannot be carried out in the lower part.

If people do not want this, they will be afraid of life and rest, and they will not be able to have children and grandchildren and be infinite. If all things are not allowed to do so, they will be destroyed and nothing will be destroyed. If the prince does not do this, he will be afraid of being overwhelmed and will not be able to secure his noble position.

This Lao Tzu idea only focuses on the sentence that the prince is invincible and noble and will be afraid of the cripple. He will desire that the king should be a man who does nothing and heals his ears.

Mortals who listen to their use and obey others are called inferior. The word of this way also. Fu Dao is nameless, so all things in heaven and earth can be used. As a person under the lowly also. And the prince is not allowed to do this, but will be in a noble position, and will be afraid. Isn't it basic to think of yes as the basic. Therefore, Yungui is based on the lowly, and the high is the basis.

And the prince called himself a lonely, widowed, and unworthy, and these three people were also called lowly. And the prince of the prince thinks of it, and his meaning is not to take the lowly as the basis, but not to care. Therefore, those who call this are wanting people to forget their noble names, and to concentrate on the tao, knowing that they are useless and use their ears. Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching
