Sea pottery art

Chinese ceramics are known abroad as "China", and this name is well-known all over the world and is well known to everyone.

Ceramics is a symbol of Chinese culture. China is the homeland of ceramics and is known as the "Country of Porcelain".

For thousands of years, people have used different mineral resources in various places to invent various ceramic products, giving the pursuit and shaping of beauty, and forming the very typical technical and artistic characteristics of each era.

It can be said that an important part of the history of the development of the Chinese nation is the history of ceramic development.

Sea pottery, as the name suggests, is pottery from the ocean. It breaks the history of thousands of years of ceramics from mines, and is another innovation in the development of ceramic raw materials.

Due to the tidal action of the sea for many years and the erosion of the Oujiang and Feiyun rivers in Wenzhou, a vast silt coast has been formed in the Dongtou area on the coast of the East China Sea, which has achieved the rich tidal resources of Dongtou and the superior raw material for making pottery - seafood mud.

Fang Defense

Inventor of the firing process to Pu Hai pottery

Speaking of the origin of sea pottery, it stems from Fang Fang's hobby of drinking tea. Tea drinkers make good use of tea utensils. As an islander, when he accidentally tried to make ceramics from sea mud, his indescribable excitement burst into his heart.

In 2008, Fang Fang began to study the use of sea mud to make pottery products, but he knew very little about pottery, in order to realize his ideas, went to the famous "porcelain capital" - Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, and brought the sea mud from his hometown, although with the assistance of professionals, the road to achieve "sea pottery" was not so smooth, and one problem after another followed.

For three months, Fang Fang sat like a needle in a drill because he wanted to verify his attempts at sea mud.

However, three months later, the sea mud firing failed. But the failure did not extinguish the enthusiasm in his heart, with all the unknown feelings and hometown feelings, he began to go to various kilns to learn the method of making ceramics.

Fang Guofang said: "If it is not good to burn out a batch, it will be shelved there, and then it will be re-explored and re-fired." ”

After several years of arduous exploration and repeated experimentation, which experienced countless failures, until 2016, it finally succeeded, and since then created a new ceramic variety - sea pottery.

Tracing the arduous road of sea pottery production, it is said that sea pottery is a ceramic product specially processed from 70 meters deep sea mud, and the process flow is extremely complicated: first of all, it takes more than half a year to repeatedly clean, filter, dry and dry the collected sea mud, and completely remove the salt.

After that, after a special mud training process, the mud is aged for several years before it becomes seafood puree.

"Stale is the process that all mud materials must go through, only the longer the time of staleness, the better the viscosity of the mud, the higher the kiln rate, after entering the kiln, it is not easy to crack and easy to shape." Fang Said.

Due to the long waiting time required for the production of sea pottery, most people did not dare to take this risk. The unknown after the stale clay material, as well as the future trend of sea pottery, are all unknowns.

However, when most people could not see the future of Haitao, Fang National Defense still insisted on breaking through many difficulties.

When it comes to partners, Fang Guofang said that in the early exploration and mid-term production process, there are several partners to join, but due to the long-term waiting, and the sea mud stale need to wait for several years, coupled with the huge cost, the partners see little effect, and have left, along the way, some people joined, some people quit, but Fang National Defense firmly believed in his dream and insisted on Haitao.

Sea mud is generated in the sea, and then extracted, refined, purified, and stale, until finally, the sea mud is transformed into various forms by means of the hands of the potters, no matter how kneading and baking, the memory of the sea mud on the sea cannot be extinguished, but the grains are in the eyes, and finally precipitated in every piece of sea pottery artwork.

Sea pottery is environmentally friendly

Collected from the mud of the sea in the mud of the tidal flats more than ten meters deep, the color is gray and black, delicate and silky, and rich in a variety of minerals. After mining it, after a series of processes, it is refined into mud, and after several years of ups and downs, it is condensed into mud for pottery.

More particularly, the general pottery is generally affected by mud and generally cannot be fired at high temperature, but the raw materials of sea pottery contain up to 23.7% alumina, so the firing temperature can reach more than 1300 degrees, which can better remove harmful substances in the clay, and the iron content is high.

Due to the characteristics of sea mud, the pottery after firing can better show the "tea aroma" and "tea rhyme", which is beneficial to human health for long-term use.

Sea pottery is fun

On the basis of inheriting China's thousand-year-old pottery craftsmanship and combining the characteristics of sea mud, the "Sea Pottery Project" has developed a series of courses for students to study and travel experience, and has also become a new carrier for modern art exchanges and traditional non-genetic inheritance.

"Haitao is something I want to do for a lifetime, and I will also combine Chinese tea ceremony, food and other cultures to develop more products with Dongtou characteristics." In Fang Guofang's collection, there is no shortage of famous ceramics, but he prefers to use his own hands to make pottery that blends simple heart and fisherman's temperament.

"I'm going to use the sea mud from my hometown to burn a tea set that makes people shine." From his simple words, I can feel that as a native of Dongtou, I have deep feelings for this ocean and this land, and as the founder of Haitao, he has the original intention and love for haitao's cause.

Sea pottery and people, sea pottery and mud, the cycle begins again and again, can be traditional, can also be fashionable, both a niche product, but also can ascend to the elegant hall, this is a story about the sea, full of cultural taste, full of breath of life, as if it is the starting point, and poetry and far away, echoing in the distance...
