Prehistoric pottery on display in the "Morning Light Xiwei" section of the Suzhou Museum.
Humans burn pottery, indicating that their ability to survive has increased by a large margin. Previously, ready-made materials, such as stones, branches, etc., were simply processed to make stone axes, ploughs, mills and other tools. Firing pottery is different, from scratch, you have to make and shape, you have to master the heat. It is another proof that human beings are more "skilled" in the use of fire.
The prehistoric pottery on display at the Suzhou Museum comes from three cultures, the Majiabang culture, the Songze culture and the Liangzhu culture.
The center of Liangzhu culture distribution is in the Qiantang River Basin and Taihu Lake Basin, and the center is located in the northwest of Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, bottle kiln town, Liangzhu culture is considered to be a source of Chinese civilization.
The pottery of Liangzhu culture is mainly gray-black pottery with fine sand and clay gray tire black leather pottery. Wheeling is more common. In general, the wall of the instrument is thinner, and the surface of the instrument is mostly polished on the plain surface, and a few have fine depictions and cut-outs. Circle foot devices and tripods are more prevalent. Representative vessel shapes include fish fin-shaped or cross-sectional T-shaped feet, bamboo-shaped beans, ear-piercing pots, large circle foot shallow abdominal disc, wide handle with flow cup and so on.

Along with the firing of gray pottery, there is also a kind of gray tire black pottery, the method of which is to seal the kiln when the pottery is about to be fired, not only seal the kiln, but also stuff the wet wood soaked in water, so that it is smouldered in the kiln and smoke, so that the black smoke penetrates into the table of the pottery. This kind of black pottery, because the tiny pores on the surface of the vessel are filled by black smoke, have the characteristics of non-water leakage. In the past, it was only known that the black and shiny clay black gray pottery was a major feature of liangzhu culture pottery, but now according to archaeological data, this type of pottery has appeared in the Songze culture period.
