Toyota has reached a new high for 9 consecutive years. The sedan Camry and the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) RAV4 played a leading role. The upscale car brand Lexus fell into a slump in the second half of the year, growing only 1.1%. At present, the semiconductor supply situation from Southeast Asia has improved, and the total sales volume in December last year increased by 26.2% compared with the same period of the previous year, achieving a year-on-year increase in four months.

Honda's sales in 2021 were 1,561,540 units, down 4.0% from the previous year and less than the previous year for the first time in the past three years. The plant in Wuhan, Hubei Province, suspended production in August due to the re-spread of the new crown epidemic, which also affected the supply of automobiles. Sales of hybrid electric vehicles (HVs), which consume less fuel, increased by 16.0%, a record high. Total sales in December last year decreased by 19.2% year-on-year, and the battle continued.

Nissan's 2021 sales were down 5.2 percent to 1,381,494 units, three consecutive years less than the previous year. Nissan predicts that "the outlook for 2022 will remain opaque" and says it will work on an electrification strategy.

In China, pure electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. Honda will release a new electric model this spring, and Toyota will also launch a pure electric model, the bZ4X, within the year.
