Foreign media: For the first time, Toyota surpassed GM to become the largest car company in the United States

According to the Wall Street Journal Chinese Network news on january 5, Toyota Motor Company surpassed General Motors for the first time to become the largest sales car manufacturer in the United States, this change is largely caused by the global shortage of computer chips, chip shortages have caused varying degrees of blows to the automotive industry.

Toyota said Tuesday that the company's total sales in the U.S. will be 2.3 million units in 2021, up about 10 percent from 2020.

By contrast, GM reported a total of 2.2 million vehicles sold in 2021, down nearly 13 percent, as chip shortages had a greater impact on its manufacturing operations, leading to fewer cars available to dealers to sell. For decades, GM has been the largest automaker in the United States by sales.

In addition, according to company reports and analyst forecasts, U.S. sales of other foreign automakers and electric car giant Tesla will also increase significantly in 2021.

Hyundai Motor Group announced on Tuesday that the company's market share has grown significantly for the second consecutive year, selling 738081 cars in 2021, up about 19 percent year-on-year. According to research firm Cox Automotive, Sales Performance for Mazda, Volkswagen and BMW also performed above average.

Overall, U.S. automakers sold nearly 15 million vehicles last year, according to research firm J.D. Power. This figure is up slightly from 2020. But that's a huge drop from 17 million units sold over the past few years. Previously, the automotive industry had sold more than 17 million vehicles for five consecutive years.
