2024 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference|Sustainable "Double Olympic City", National Fitness Metaverse...... Smart + Sports on the "Belt and Road".

As the vanguard of promoting the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Beijing's development is crucial, and when discussing the development of intelligence + sports on the "Belt and Road", Beijing as the "double Olympic city" is also worth mentioning.

"Although sports competitions are not technical competitions, it is necessary to organize a great sports day without the support of technology. Technology has never been absent from the Olympics. Yu Hong, former director of the technical department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, said.

As a "double Olympic city", "innovation" and "sustainability" have become the key words in the holding of professional events and the integration of high-tech applications. For the first time in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, a comprehensive information service system supporting six languages was built, a Chinese-English synchronous display system was set up, which can display competition information in real time and bilingually, and an 800 megabyte digital trunking was built. It is worth mentioning that these technologies have also become dedicated communication systems for city operations after serving the Olympic Games, and will continue to serve the 2022 Winter Olympics.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics, the National Speed Skating Stadium, known as the "Ice Ribbon", optimized and innovated its structural design to save three-quarters of the amount of steel used. The innovative technology of the National Bobsleigh Center, known as the "Snow Dragon", ensures that the 1.9-kilometer track is spray-poured at one time. The National Aquatics Center has been converted from the "Water Cube" to the "Ice Cube" using prefabricated rapid disassembly and FM dynamic monitoring technology, and the site conversion of water ice can be completed within 20 days. The Shougang Big Air Platform applies the tetrahedral module and the tetrahedral connection node to realize the rapid transformation of the slopes of different competition tracks.

In addition, full 5G coverage has also become one of the highlights of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Based on 5G applications, driverless cars completed the torch relay, telemedicine, and the referee assistance system using Beidou satellite positioning helped the Olympic Games to be held successfully.

At the same time, in terms of "green" hosting of the Olympic Games, the Beijing Winter Olympics will input green electricity produced by wind and solar energy in Zhangbei into Beijing through the Zhangbei Flexible DC Power Grid Project, achieving the goal of carbon neutrality for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Yu Hong summarized the integration of science and technology and sports in the Beijing Winter Olympics with "20 achievements applied for the first time, 30 achievements for large-scale demonstration application, and 50 achievements for display and application".

Of course, it's not just Beijing. The Greek ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Evjeños Karperis, said that the Greeks discovered the importance of sports not only because of the advanced technology of the time, but also because the knowledge of science and technology had spread to all levels of society, and they had the ability to imagine the technological inventions described by Homer in ancient times, which is very similar to the current expectation of more technological advances with the support of artificial intelligence.

"When the available data reaches a critical mass, with the help of machine learning algorithms, new ways of training and athletic performance can be identified and applied to athletes, whether amateurs, professionals, team members, or individuals. Professional athletes can use the help of AI to improve their physical condition, training and technique, or increase their appeal to fans in the market. Evjeños Calperis said.

Nick Watanabe, associate professor and director of the International Graduate Program at the University of Southern California and Ph.D. in recreation, sports and tourism at the University of Illinois, also shared his views on how AI can help sports development. "Tracking and analyzing the performance of athletes and teams, the analytical tools of artificial intelligence have dramatically changed the nature of sports, and the main development process is the application of tools to analyze the performance of athletes and even see the value they contribute. At the same time, AI will also optimize business outcomes in sports, as well as the consumer experience.

Alifu, from the School of Intelligent Science and Technology of the University of Science and Technology Beijing from Pakistan, said that the development of sports assisted by artificial intelligence is mainly reflected in the selection of talents, the improvement of athletes' training effects, the promotion of more accurate and fair referee judgments in sports competitions, and the need to meet the multi-scene sports needs of more people.

"There are a large number of intelligent applications in elite sports competitive sports, and it can be seen from the industry that this has moved towards a lightweight and low-cost state, which will also promote the expansion of sports to a wider range of ordinary people. Based on the expansion of a large number of consumer groups and application scenarios, the technology that was originally enjoyed by elite athletes and elite sports scenarios is also widely used in the mass market, which is a good development opportunity from elite sports to the sports industry. Wang Xueli, director of the Sports Industry Development Research Center of Tsinghua University, tenured associate professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Leadership and Organizational Management of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, said.

So aside from the help of intelligent innovation technology for professional events and professional venues, what role can these cutting-edge digital technologies play in popular sports?

The answer given by Hu Chao, vice chairman of the board of directors of Asia Digital Group, is the national fitness metaverse.

Hu Chao said in the sharing that in cooperation with the Beijing Social Sports Management Center under the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau, Asia Digital Group has built a comprehensive platform for national fitness smart services - National Fitness Metaverse.

Although the platform is only a prototype, in Hu Chao's vision, the completed national fitness metaverse will have a considerable scale.

Hu Chao introduced that there will be a digital exhibition hall here, where citizens will control digital people to watch the exhibition in the metaverse exhibition hall, there will be a metaverse conference hall for online meetings and lectures, there will be a metaverse commercial street, there will be a large number of brands to settle in and realize digital store shopping, and there will also be various types of national fitness events, activities, games and digital human customer service. The establishment of this platform will greatly improve the shortcomings of daily event activities by time, space, resources, and small number of people covered, and achieve extensive participation of the whole people. This model was well demonstrated in the 2nd Beijing Egg Cracking Open held this year.

Chen Wencheng, Ph.D. from Beijing Sport University and postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, shared the help of new quality productivity for college sports.

"In terms of digital sports, we have done the first 'digital sports' course in a university in the country, and students can experience skiing, running, surfing, etc. through physical activities. At the same time, the School of Engineering of Beijing Sport University is now conducting research on big data. For example, the visual analysis of the strength and running speed of athletes in some events during the competition. In addition, the health e-sports program we launched has also been responded to by many colleges and universities across the country. Chen Wencheng said.

The strategic layout of Peking University Sports revolves around the "Four Ones" project, which is promoted from the levels of teaching, scientific research, groups, venues and competitions. In terms of competitions, the first Future Games will be held in the future. "We hope that through the university platform, more young people can embrace future sports, competitive sports, and digital sports, so that they can develop better physically and mentally. Chen Wencheng introduced.

Wang Xueli said that in mass sports, intelligent technology and related data technology have brought a good smart space operation and maintenance model. For example, the ubiquitous fitness and sports venues in Beijing, as well as the promotion of the work of Hubei and Fujian provinces as the first batch of pilot units for the construction of smart public sports spaces in the country last year, all well reflect the integration of intelligent technology and related data technology with popular sports and fitness.

In addition, in the B-end market, some wearable devices containing high-tech are also being manufactured and promoted, such as civilian-grade photoelectric sunglasses and snow goggles launched by SKiiN Intelligent Technology, and intelligent skiing systems based on the combination of AI digital twin advanced coaching and XR technology. In terms of venue construction, the intelligent control results launched by Ganjiang New Materials Co., Ltd. use the self-regulating mechanism of natural organic materials to achieve environmental control, including humidity control and carbon dioxide absorption, which also further demonstrates the help of intelligent technology for sports development.
